After reading the Obagi posts I decided that Obagi Clear may be the miracle product for my patches of hyperpigmentation.
So....I called the local cosmetic surgeon's office, knowing that he sells Obagi. The assistant said that it is illegal to sell Obagi Clear over the Internet due to the 4% hydroquinine. She also said that I may recieve expired products thru online vendors.
Is this true? I think it is just a scam to get me into the office. |

EDS is very reliable and the products are fresh ( it is permissable to sell 4% in Canada.) |

I ordered my Obagi set through EDS and the earliest expiration date for one of the products was a year away, while all the others were closer to two years away (the Clear's expiration date is 12/09). The products from EDS are very fresh. |

I don't think it is a scam really--but a lot of people don't trust online retailers for some reason--probably becasue they've never given it a try. Also, Obagi is a very strong skin care regimen, so I'm sure some doctors would advise against going it alone without medical supervision. That said, I've had no problems buying obagi over the internet and using the products without supervision. |

Your doctor is correct.

Others not authorized to sell these products may very well sell outdated products, may not be storing them in the proper conditions, or who knows what else.
Besides that, this is a powerful product line. It is very risky to used these products without being under the supervision of a professional.
But to each his own! |

I forgot to add this.
Also from the Obagi web site FAQ:
Q: Why are the Obagi System products sold exclusively from physicians? Can the products be purchased on the internet?
A: Obagi System skin care products are prescription strength formulations regulated by the U.S. FDA and can only be sold with a prescription through a physician, such as a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon. Obagi System does not endorse purchasing prescription products from the internet without a written prescription. Click here for the Physician Locator.
This certainly is not meant to be a criticism for those who do this on their own, especially as so many have seen successful results regardless of how they choose to go about the program.
Just another piece of information you may want to consider. |

the thing is--if you use Obagi without professional help and you have problems--extreme reactions etc--then you have to rely on online forums for help, which is not ideal. I have used Obagi for a long time on my own and have had no problems, but my skin is pretty tough and resilient. It's always a good idea to see a professional, but for me the cost is just too great. I would pay at least 30% more if i went to a dermatologist. you have to balance the pros and cons and make an informed decision.
Obagi works well even if you go for a very slow, mild protocol, so this might be the safest bet for someone going it alone. |

Hi everyone, I am a new member who has, (until today) only read posts. I've been doing research on Obagi Nu-Derm and the Janson Beckett line. I finally made a decision today to order the Obagi Nu-Derm kit and realized if I had been posting I would receive a discount. That was enough for me to introduce myself and get started.
It looks like I can come here to ask questions since I will be doing this without a derm. I have pretty tough skin and have always justed used my local CVS store to purchase my face products but that is ending today. I am 45 and it's time to pamper me. I already have received my Retin-a (.05%) from online pharmacy and am anxious to get the Obagi ordered but want to make sure I order the correct kit. I will be ordering the Obagi Normal/Dry - Sensitive Skin Kit
which contains 6 products. I have some wrinkles and age spots from sunbathing in my younger years. I plan to be on this for 18 weeks.
Will EDS require me to have a prescription from a derm to order the clear & blender? Am I ordering the correct items? Thank you and this is a great forum. |

Mrsdowfire - you ordered the correct things. You will be amazed at your skin in 18 weeks. Good luck to you. And, no, EDS does not require a Rx for clear and blender. Make sure you use a very good sunscreen every day. |

You're welcome! At least SPF 30. I don't remember if the Obagi sunscreen comes in the kit or not? If so, that would be #6, and that is a good one. I use Dr. Lewinn's. It is thick and pasty, but once you put it on, it goes matte and you can't tell you are wearing it. It really is experimenting with sunscreens. I tried several of the european ones, but I would still tan/freckle through them, so they weren't right for me. |
