I know these 2 sunscreens have been discussed numerous times before. I did a search for them but can't seem to find all the answers to my questions, so I post another thread Embarassed

It seems many ppl are saying these 2 ss are very similar but there's a big difference in price. Actually I think they're about the same cuz Sunkiller is 1/2 the size of Sofina.

Anyways, I want to know how effective they're in terms of UVA protection. I know they have a PPD >8 and that's about it. Is Sunkiller a physical ss btw? Although Sofina claims it is but it contains 1 chemical ingredient to it => Octinoxate??

For Sofina Nuance Up, there's a pink tint to it whereas the Lucent, it's transparent. Just wondering are they the same in terms of texture & ingredients. And is the pink tint so obvious to light skin or it's very subtle?

For Sunkiller (the tinted one), how's the tint like? Is it suitable for light/fair skin? Would it be too yellow or orange? Are the sunkiller drying? Do I need a moisturizer underneath? I just noticed that Sunkiller has a cleansing gel to remove their ss as well as makeup.

Finally, for those of u that tried both, which do u prefer or recommend? I have sensitive skin. I would say I have combination skin in t-zone whereas other areas are a bit dry. I break out easily too. Which ss would be a better choice for me then? Thank you for taking the time to read thru my long post! Very Happy

I tried both and liked the Sunkiller better. I bought the whitening water one and repurchased another when the first one was used up. I also bought the tinted one, but I don't like it as much as the whitening water one. It is too thick for me. As far as the color goes, it seems to blend in ok with my skintone. I am Asian, and have a tan skin. I won't be repurchasing the skintone one once it's gone. The reason I didn't like the Sofina as much is because it felt too slippery to me. I think they put more cones in it than the Sunkiller one. HTH!

Hi bkkgirl, thanks for replying Smile So would u recommend the Sunkiller Skin Tone for someone with fair skin? Would that be too dark? When u said it sorta blend in ok with your skintone, do u mean it's too dark or light on u? I wanna order it & try but am concerned about the color being not suitable for me. I'm afraid it'll look a dirty brown or orangy on me. I'm Asian with fair skin and more of a neutral tone compared to a yellow tone. Thanks!! Very Happy

I'll tell you what. I'll take a pic of before applying the Sunkiller Skintone SS and after, so you can see what it looks like. Can't do it now since I'm at work, and I don't have the camera.

I think it should blend in fine for your skin. I don't think it looks orangy. I don't like it as much as the whitening water because it's too thick, not due to the color issue.

As far as whether it gives good protection, I really have no idea. I hope so! I just go by the PA rating for the UVA, and hopefully since it's PA+++ (highest rating), it means it is a good one. The SPF rating is over 50, so that's good, too. It's a Japanese product, so I hope they have a good regulation on their products.

Thanks bkkgirl for taking a pic of that! U R the best! Very Happy I kinda prefer the Sunkiller Skintone over the Clearwater or Sofina cuz I don't need to moisturize beforehand, and that saves me a step. I tried neither the Sunkiller or Sofina but I heard that Sofina Nuance Up is drying as well as Clearwater, so that kinda turns me away.

You can send the pics to my inbox....I can't wait to see them Smile Thanks bkkgirl!

I find sofina is way better and works great as a foundation primer. Sunkiller seemed too chalky for me and sofina applied very smoothly.

I've tried both and prefer sunkiller. Here's my comparisons:

In terms of SPF, I think both are similar because both uze zinc and octinoxate.

Tone: I prefer the pink-ish toned Sofina because the Sunkiller (both Powder in milk and Clearwater) give a tiny bit of white cast in the 1st hour of wearing

Finish: Sofina seems less matte than Sunkiller. I think with oily skin, Sunkiller is better as it sucks up oil very well, especially Powder in Milk version. Sofina is better if your skin is not as oily I think, as Sunkiller can be very drying if you don't have oily skin. (Not to say that Sofina is for dry skin as Sofina is still also drying, but my guess is Sunkiller Powder in Milk for oily, oily skin, Sunkiller Clearwater for normal-oily skin, Sofina for normal/combo/normal-oily skin.)

I've used Sofina--both Nuance Up and Lucent. I liked both and didn't find the tint in Nuance to be obvious at all.

I've also used Sunkiller...but only the Clearwater version. I found it very similar to Sofina lucent--but the Sunkiller seemed to leave my skin a little bit oiler as the day went on. The Sofina seemed to have more of a matte finish.

Sofina is my favorite for summertime, but it's too drying for the winter months. And even though, on my skin, the Sunkiller is a little more moisturizing...it's still not moisturizing enough for the cold weather...hth and I didn't confuse you further Smile

Which of these is heavier in alcohol? I've heard the drying is a concern for some users.

I have tried Sofina, I like the texture, not greasy is my big concerned. However, I notice that Sofina SS only have 8PPD, does anyone know what's PPD of sunkiller?

From what I've read, it's about the same as Sofina, something like 8.

Hi Suk Han,
The last time I went to Hong Kong (last year), I could only get Sofina from their counters, but with Sunkiller, you can get them in any Watsons or Mannings.

Hi Suk Han

I've got 4 Sofina sunscreens but I've not tried any of them as I was hoping to use them when my acne would get slightly better. But my skin is playing up again, so all four of the sunscreens are untouched!

From the reviews I've read about the two sunscreens, both of them leave a matte finish so its suitable for humid weather espec in HK! I think skincareaddicted has used both of these particular sunscreens but is now using something else with a higher PPD, so you could try PMing her.

HTH
