My dermatologist didnt perscribe Clear to be used with the AM routine. Just cleanser, toner, sunblock. The PM has all the major stuff! After reading post, I have added "Clear" to my AM. I mainly wanted to fade age spots and freckles in the first place. Please tell me what some of you have been advised to do. Thanks

I think most people are following the Obagi protocol as described on their webpage http://www.obagi.com/article/forpatients/obaginu-dermsystem/protocolforuse/protocols.html which does include using Clear both AM and PM. However, if your derm prescribed a different regime it might be a good idea to check in with him/her first to see if there's a reason that the Clear was excluded from your morning routine.

By the way, what about the Exfoderm? Are you using this at night too or not at all?

I was told to use Clear AM and PM.

My routine was:
AM:
Cleaner/Toner
Clear
Sunblock SPF35

PM:
Cleanser/Toner
Clear
Blender
Retin A

I didn't use Exfoderm. They had mentioned to me it may not be necessary, and when I'd started they didn't have any in stock. By the time they did, I was well into the program and didn't feel it was necessary.

I've had great results with Obagi and this was my regimen for the first 18 weeks:

AM
Cleanser/Toner
Clear
Obagi SPF 35

PM
Cleanser/Toner
Clear
Blender+ Retin-A .1%

I believe that clear in the am is necessary for the first 6/12 or 18 weeks. It facilitates the peeling and the deep penetration of the products.

My regimen was customized for my skin. They start with a conservative approach to let your skin get used to the products, but everyone is different.

AM:
Cleanser
Skin polish (as opposed to toner)
Vitamin C serum 5%
Clear
Sunscreen.

PM:
Cleanser
Skin polish
Vitamin C serum
Exfoderm
Clear

The Exfoderm will be added to the AM after week one. In four weeks, depending on how my skin is responding, they will be adding the blender and Retin A.

I would definitely call your dermatologist because there could be a very specific reason, and it is possible they will be adding it on later. They should know how best for you to be using these products based on your skin type. At least that's what we pay them for!

beeb,

It is Aestival. Gentle Skin Polish 2.

She said this could be used as a skin prep instead of toner.

I had posted this on another forum, but maybe someone can advise me. I bought Blender a few months ago because I thought I'd run out and wanted to have it on hand. It is still new, wrapped and has the date of 9/08 on it. I called Skincare RX and they have a return policy, but I am too late. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions??? I hate to let it go to waste sitting in my drawer. My dermatologist has switched me from Retin A to another cream.I do welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Nope, tried that...Ebay kicked it off....they won't let anyone sell Blender..go figure...oh well...expensive lesson learned...next time, I wait until product is totally gone before spending that much $$$ again. On a good note, for those who use Obagi, the products do last a while...so wait until you're near the end to purchase again...

jeber,

The blender must be prescription. I forgot about that. Perhaps someone here will purchase it from you.

Hope you find a solution.

I've been using Obagi for over 7 years and my skin has never been good like right now. For those people who wants nice skin even in their 50's, please try Obagi... They are great products.

Re your question, please use CLEAR in the AM and evening, your skin will thank you for it.

Cheers.

During my first 18 weeks I used Clear in the AM and PM. I think that is standard.

As soon as I went on maintenance and cut out the Clear in the AM my redness and flaking went away. Clear obviously has a strong effect when used twice a day, so I would say it is necessary for the program to work.

I agree I believe you need to use the clear, both in the AM/PM. Exfoderm should also be used during the AM, and Blender with the Retin A at night.

This is what I found on the Obagi site, hope it helps!

Obagi Clear is the major bleaching and correcting preparation in the Nu Derm Skin Health Restoration program. It contains 4% hydroquinone (prescription strength) as the active ingredient in an activating base to increase its effectiveness. Bleaching with hydroquinone suppresses the overproduction of melanin.

Clear is to be used twice daily until the expected results have been achieved. Thereafter, it is to be used as needed to maintain results. Apply Clear to the entire face, morning and evening, including the eyelids, extending to the hairline, over the ears and ending with a feathering motion from the jawline down the neck. Remove any excess amount by the eyes. A second coat can be applied over darker pigmented lesions.

Note: Patients with dark skin should use Obagi Clear on the entire face once a day, preferably in the morning and apply at night on the darkest areas only
