Hi everyone:
I know several threads have been created describing the horrors of some eyelash perm experiences. After spending an appauling amount of time and money on mascaras that would:
1. Keep my curl
2. Maximize my typical 'asian' lashes
3. Maintain soft lashes
3. NOT damage my lashes
I thought I found a system that seemed to do most of these things. The system included: Heated eyelash curler, Shiseido Mascara Base, Maybelline Full and Soft WP mascara, a light layer of Marcelle Healthy Lash mascara on top to lengthen, one final crimp with my shu eyelash curler. I know we're not supposed to use an eyelash curler after putting on mascara but that was the only way to create a curl in my dead straight lashes. I know most asian girls tend to curl after putting on mascara too. Clearly, this method was becoming very tedious and obviously didn't fulfill the last point, which was to not damange my lashes, so I finally bit the bullet and went to get an eyelash perm. The esthetician decided to give me the widest rod because she said that I had long lashes--thank you Revitalash! And she didn't want to give me the medium rod in case the curl was too unatural. I'll be honest, I like my lashes super curly so the results weren't quite what I expected but at least I don't have to curl my lashes anymore! You have no idea how much time this shaves off my morning routine! I can just swipe Shiseido Masacara Base, a quick coat of Full and Soft, and, if I want, I layer of Marcelle Healthy Lash and I'm done. Plus, my curl stays ALL day!!!! This has never happened to me in my life! I may try the medium rod next time and achieve a more dramatic curl. Just for everyones' information, I had absolutely no irritation from the process. I know some mentioned some redness right after but I was fine--and that's amazing given I am a contact lens wearer and I have extremely sensitive eyes. Anyways, I just wanted to write about my positive experience with eyelash perms. Hope this helps! |

I'm not one of those girls that curl post-mascara. I can see why they'd do it but it's too messy all around, messy for the lashes and messy for the curler.
Glad that you got nice results with the perm. |

I love my eyelash perm very much. Best eyelash perm I've ever had.
I've never had any bad eyelash perm experience myself, but some of my friends back in California had some. I think it's just because they went to inexperienced technicians.
So, I have been looking for a good eyelash perm place for a while, and finally my coworker found Salon De Grace in East Village.
This place is not exactly a salon. It's the owner's cute apartment. I don't care, she charges only $35. Other salon in New York charges $90.
The owner, Michi is from Tokyo and has been doing eyelash perm for more than 10 years. She is a genius, she made a perfect curl on my very short lashes. It's been 3 weeks since I got perm, my lashes are still perfectly curled.
Salon De Grace (check her reviews at yelp) |

I did not know you could perm eyelashes. Where have I been?! How exactly do they go about perming them? How do you maintain them? Do you have to use a special moisturizer treatment? How long do they normally last for?
LL, I must try that Shiseido Masacara Base!
jialee, I LOVE yelp. I'm going to look up that salon/apartment. |

I don't know if I would be brave enough to risk eyelash perming...
Esp. since eyelashes naturally fall out in about 5 months or so - and some studies have shown that permed eyelashes fall out even sooner...
I think I'll just stick with my Shu Uemura eyelash curler and Diorshow mascara... |
