Yes, I developed them while using CSRx C serum. After discontinuing the serum they disappeared quickly. This was a number of years ago, but recall that I tried one or two other serums just to see if it was an issue with that particular brand. Nope, blackheads appeared regardless of the brand.
Recently started using Retin-A Micro and on impulse bought MyChelle brand C serum thinking it would be nice to give my skin some extra protection and nourishment. I FULLY expected to see blackheads again, but it's been over a week and my skin is completely clear! Yay!
Was planning on posting here to ask if others thought, as I do, that the exfoliation of the R-A is preventing the blackheads? If so, perhaps some gentle exfoliation would help you?
I do like the MyChelle serum because it also has CoQ10, but the consistency is no different than other serums.
Summary from the web site:
The Perfect C Serum - 0.5 oz.
Vitamin C treatment containing stabilized L-ascorbic acid at 15 percent concentration, complexed with other antioxidants such as wine phytoalexins, CoQ10, retinol, lycopene, beta carotene, D-beta glucosamine and D-beta fructan. L-ascorbic acid stimulates and supports those enzymes in the skin that produce and maintain collagen. Excellent for Acne skin too. List Price: $38.95
Sale Price: $35.06
It's kind of expensive, but am telling myself the other ingredients are essential, hence the price is worth it.
May well try CSRx again since it's a perfectly good product and more cost effective. If I do, will let you know what happens. |

I too seem to have issues with c-serums and congestion/blackheads. Not sure if it's the actual vit. c or other ingredients in the serums. It's frustrating becausae it's great for the skin ~ we eat it seems we should be able to put it on the skin without issue.
Tea, I have the Mychelle C-serum too!! I haven't started it yet but when I do it will be my 3rd c-serum attempt. I love the ingerdient list (e.g. glucosamine and coq10). I would think the exfoliation from Retin-a would help keep the pores clearer - maybe you've hit on the right combo! |

I am new to Vivier 20 and love it!!! By the feel of it I think it has an oil base. If you have oily skin or tendency for blackheads water based products are best. When I was younger I used Cellex C.IMO Cellex C is one of the best Vit. C products for oily/breakout prone skin.

Blackheads named for their typically dark color, are considered an open comedo. The sebum plug has reached the surface of the skin. The color of the blackhead is not caused by dirt, but by excess skin pigment, debris and skin particles.
When dealing with blackheads, a person is advised to:
Avoid oil-based cosmetics, which can increase the blockage of pores. Use water-based cosmetics and wash your face thoroughly each evening.
Eat a well-balanced diet.

I noticed my large pores having more black in them after using vita C but then I was using too much so I cut back, I realized that I don't need to coat my face and feel it all over like a moisturizer. |

this is the response I got:
I spoke with the Medical Aesthetician and the Vivier Vitamin C does not cause blackheads. Most people are under the misconception that because it's an oil it would make you break out but Vivier™ Vitamin-C IDS™ acts on the surface of the skin as an anti-aging factor by neutralizing free radicals produced in the skin. Vitamin-C also stimulates collagen formation topically and increases skin vitality and youthfulness. Vitamin-C IDS™ (L-Ascorbic Acid) acts quickly by being absorbed topically into the skin and deposited in the spaces between cells where its action is optimal and controlled.
hope this helps |
