Is talc bad for your skin? If so why?
I have always wanted to know, my mum never uses any product with it in, when I asked her why she said she didn't know she'd just always thought it was bad. |

Talc can be harsh on sensitive skin, it can clog pores and just irritate membranes. Talc also can make your skin look a little powderey and cakey if you prefer a more natural look this wouldn't be something that would appeal of course.
People with oily skin may think talc would be helpful to absorb excess oils but it may just clog the pores and create more problems. |

Have you tried any of the mineral makeups? Since the popularity of Bare Minerals there are tons of mineral products out there now.

I have tried bare escentuals and loved it! I think the shadows are really nice for my skintone, but it has bismuth in it, which totally irritates my skin.  A bit unfortunate as I really did like the colors and the coverage BE had. |

| I don't know about harm to the skin but it is very harmful if inhaled. The talcum particles stick to the lining of the lungs. |

| talc is the base of most face and eye cosmetics, even Dr hauschka uses talc.. albeit they claim it is refined and contaminant free. i have not found any other face powder to give a good finish and that is talc free. it really depends on your skin, i used to stay clear of talc as i thought it clogged pores, but as my skin condition improved it really doesn't matter what sort of cosmetics i use as it does not cause irritation. |

I can once remember reading there is a link between talc and ovarian cancer. Havent used it since.
Apparently a good substitute is rice powder. |

Decided to look it up and found out, eee you were right about the lung thing and the cancer thing.
"It is a known carcinogenic, irritant, lung asphyxiater, and linked to uterine cancer! So, why are educated cosmetics companies still producing make-up composed of talc? It is cheap. They can make a great profit on a very poor performing cosmetic ingredient. Not only is talc unhealthy for our skin, but it doesn’t even look good. It creases and wears off, clogs pores, and causes acne." |

 I am so shocked to read all this as I have Sofina's sunscreen and the eighth ingredient in the list. Was wondering if someone using this product have had any adverse effects? |

| most eyeshadows have talc in it as well. the ones that don't contain bismuth and silica. both irritate my eyes/ In desperate need of a good eyeshadow without bismuth and silica. Perferably without talc too. |

Iv never had any problem with it. And Johnsons baby powder has this stuff in it. If it was soo harmful it would not be recommended for babies 
I dont wear makeup foundation liquid or powder. After using sunblock which can give a shiny appearance i take a makeup brush dust some johnsons baby powder in my hand use the brush to get the powder from the palm of my hand dusting for any excess and brush it over my face. This works wonderfully to take of the shine away and doesnt give any powdery look or anything.
Iv never had any irritation whatso ever. And been using powder since a child so does everyone in my family use this powder. |

| I sometimes use a little baby talc if I have run out of my Dr Hauschka deodorant or use a little to brush through my hair if I don't have time to wash it and the roots are a bit greasy. I think it is a useful product but better to use sparingly. I think that talc in foundations and face powders can make your skin dry out and I have heard of small children suffocting after inhaling too much of it but I didn't know it had been linked with cancer, that is a concern! |
