Hi Ladies! Try as I might to stay healthy, it's impossible not to catch a cold when I spend all day with 25 kids that sneeze all over me. I have the beginnings of a horrible cold... I'm at the point where I have have a major headache, full body ache and my normally unsensitive skin is ultra sensitive- almost like it hurts. (I don't know how to describe it...I hope some of you know what I mean!)
I took a bath with Epsom salt to help the aches and pains, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a lotion or a bath additive or something to make my skin feel better. Any other tips to help a cold would be much appreciated too. Thanks! |

Honestly, you'd better consult a doctor! |

Haha no, no need for a doctor. It happens whenever I'm getting a cold/flu, it just kind of goes along with the full body aches. I'm beginning to think it's just a northern Canadian thing, because it's so bloody cold here, and everyone I know here knows exactly what I'm talking about. I hate winter so much... |

Gah, that sucks. I think you're on the right track with Epsom salts. I'd avoid doing the typical cold/flu bath steeps that tend to involve a lot of menthol or eucalyptus, as these can be irritating to your already-irritated skin. Just stick with your Epsom and get lots of rest! |

I know exactly what you mean. For me, it's an indication that I have a fever, sometimes even a low-grade fever, and the only thing that relieves it is my fever going down. So - if you won't go to the doctor - maybe some kind of NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, e.g., tylenol) or asprin or whatever you normally use for fevers. If it's the same thing that I get, nothing topical works.
As far as the cold goes - sadly, there still really isn't much that helps a cold (if you believe the researchers). Just rest, fluids, and time. And although there really isn't any evidence for it, I usually feel better when I drink large amounts of orange juice.
Hope you feel better soon!!! |

Aw you poor kid, I know exactly what you mean, it is brutal cold these days...
Around here we use homeopathy ie Gelsemium 30 Aconite 30Nux Vomica 30 when first feeling anything and another thing that works like a charm is drops of hydrogen peroxide in the ears till the fizzing stops, these work best right at the start. Viruses enter through the eyes, nose and ears mostly so this can kill stuff quick.
Zinc has been shown to work well and cold-eze seems to be a good product. We get colds every couple of years usually stress related, husbands cancer, and mom's death were the last two reasons and so having this antiviral product on hand shortens the duration. Typically 3 days is what it takes. http://www.smartbomb.com/nutfac4751.html
Not a big fan of orange juice, because of the effect on blood sugar and inflammation, but oranges for sure. Liquids and chicken soup are good and my favourite recipe for a 'cold' drink is 3 cups water, 3 cloves garlic, bring to boil. Remove from heat strain and stir in .5cup honey and .5 cup fresh lemon juice. take .5 cup warmed 3 x daily. Do NOT microwave.
Feel better soon! |

Airborne, Fiji water, Epsom salt baths and plenty of sleep helped me immensely this cold/flu season. Finding someone to give you a foot massage doesn't hurt either!
For skin I would back off on aggressive exfoliation (manual or chemical) just make sure to keep it clean and hydrated. I do the same around my cycle when my skin gets a bit sensitive. |

I'm glad someone asked this question- my skin is aching right now! I just got a cold or flu from my husband and my body is aching, even my eyballs hurt and are so uncomfortable! I feel like just sitting in a sauna all day! |
