Help! I've lost about 30-35 pounds, and now have some skin that is kind of "loose". It just doesn't feel as firm or close to my muscles as it used to.
I'm 44 and put lotion on when I'm just out of the bath every day. I've even used some of the "skin firming" lotions out there, but don't seem to notice anything. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how I can get my skin back to 'normal'? |

I do not have a definite answer, but have heard that "LUST" Non-Invasive Body Contouring "shrinks" the skin. Based on the intensity it might melt some fat too, depending on the area. For thighs and buttocks it supposed to be more of tightener, and for stomach it is supposed to be tightener+fat remover. If somebody had experience with LUST and can share an opinion, it would be great. |

Hi Geminiwoman - Drink as much pure water as possible or at the very least, try to consume a half ounce of pure water for every pound you currently weigh, and do so every day. As best as you can, do not allow yourself to become dehydrated - EVER! Losing too much weight too quickly and not being hydrated enough during the process is a sure-fire way of developing loose or saggy skin. A good rule of thumb for anyone trying to lose a substantial amount of weight, is to aim for no more than 3 pounds a week and stay very, very hydrated throughout. This will allow the skin to keep up with the weight loss and shrink at a slow enough rate that it doesn't trigger any excess skin to 'hang' once you reach your ideal weight.
I also highly recommend the following:
1) Pure MSM Powder - This is a very effective supplement for improving your skin, nails and hair - but particularly helpful for firming the skin all over your body. Over the course of several weeks, work up to a dosage of 4 grams a day, divided into two doses (one dose in the AM and another in the late afternoon or around dinner time, but do not consume in the evening). http://bio-alternatives.net/msm.htm
2) Vitamin C Powder - Vitamin C is a vital co-factor in the formation of collagen and is very effective when it is taken orally, and even more so when you combine it with MSM Powder. The two together are reported to increase the firming activity of the skin. Take 2 grams a day along with the MSM Powder (both are added to pure water or juice) - again dividing the doses between the AM and afternoon or early evening. http://www.lef.org/newshop/items/item00084.html
3) Dry Brush your skin every single day before you shower. This is a fantastic way of increasing the blood flow and circulation to the surface of your skin and stimulating the release of toxins, as well as increasing healthy skin cell renewal (which means there will be development of fresh collagen and elastin to keep your skin firm!). Your skin will truly begin to tighten up a lot faster with 5 minutes of daily dry brushing, but you must be consistent and stick with it. This is extremely helpful for battling cellulite, too! Here are some tips for dry brushing - http://healingtools.tripod.com/skinbrush.html
4) For the more adventurous and those trying to reduce stretch marks, you may want to try a Dermaroller for the body (prongs should be at least 1 mm in length).
5) Last but not least, your body really needs the combination of a cardio and weight training regime if you want to really reduce the development of any extra loose skin.
The links to products are only suggestions to help give you an idea of what to look for.
HTH's and congrats on the weight loss!!!! |

Thanks ladies! All great ideas, that I will put to use! I used to dry brush, but haven't for quite a while. And, drink WAY too much Diet Pepsi and not enough water...plus only think about going to the gym but rarely get there...so this is just MORE motivation for me to do these good things for myself.
Allie Grace - best of luck to you on your weight loss! I had been miserable and depressed, and was eating myself into oblivion every night. So...I got a bit of help for my mental health, and am feeling fantastic! The pounds just melted off because I wasn't eating so dang much! Unfortunately, in my opinion, there is no such thing as a quick fix...just don't put so much food in my big mouth!!! I have dropped 3 sizes, and have been stable at my current weight for about 2 months...so I actually ENJOY getting dressed and shopping again. I even wear belts! And clothes that fit! |

Yay for feeling good and enjoying clothes:) I know exactly what you mean!
I struggle with depression, and around the time I gained the weight I was on paxil, then celexa...just really struggling and SO depressed, and ironically the drugs made me even more depressed. I lost 20 lbs or so in spite of it all, replaced doctors pills ( which had me almost suicidal) with excercise and self help books. I just could'nt maintain the loss and gained it back, but it came back so fast I knew something was wrong. I sort of let it ride for a while and tackled quitting smoking which was huge for me. Still felt sluggish and then started getting flu like symptoms once a month! So I VERY hesitantly went back to the doc, now I'm on thyroid pills LOL...gotta laugh at some point.
I'm finding it hard to lose the weight but am determined that I am doing it. My main prob now is that in order to lose I need to push the exercise from 30min five days a week, to at least 45... but not hurt myself LOL. And I think I must be eating JUST over the calorie amount I should be, and I'm not acknowledging it because well...I hate being hungry!
Anyhow...I loved reading your success:) Here's to not drooping LOL!
Thanks from me too scotslass, I'm going to add the msm and c regimen to my day, and I really do need to remember to drink more water! |

I lost 38 pounds about 4 years ago (I'm 51). I kept it off. My neck was saggy for a while it is pretty good now. I do facial exercizes and AHA peels. I have more recently been using a skin roller (see Dermaroller thread). This last seems to help firm things up also.
Good luck. |
