So I'm on a business trip and there's a Sephora close by. I've.. um.. never been in one before. Embarassed

(I feel better now that I've confessed)

So what's the deal with the samples? Can I just go around and ask for zillions of them? Do they do makeup samples as well as skin care? How does it work? Is it different at each store (I'm in Dallas right now)

thanks! I want to maximize the experience. Wink

How generous they are with the samples depends on the sales person you get. Some are wonderful and generous; some are stingy like it actually costs them personally. I think they tend to be more generous with people who actually plan to buy as opposed to people who just wander in and want a bunch of freebies. I've been pretty lucky by going straight for something I know I want to buy, get it in hand so they know you are going to purchase it, then ask for help with products you'd like to try out. They then generally give you several samples of those types of products. It's easy to get samples of creams and the like because they have little pots for that. It's hard to get samples of things like mascara and pressed powders. So ask about products that are easy to give samples of like moisturizer or foundation and don't waste time on things like mascara. Good luck and have fun!

make sure you sign up for their free member ship card "beauty insider". When ever you make a purchase they will give you an extra bonus free-bee and as well with ever $100 you spend they usually have more bonus products to give you (points accumulate on your card, you don't need to spend $100 all at once).

Don't know if this is true elsewhere but last time I was in my local Sephora I approached a male associate with a specific question about a product (looked out of stock), then asked him for samples to try. He was very generous with samples and I've not had that experience at this Sephora before. Hate to stereotype but I wonder if male associates are more willing to give samples?!?

A previous experience at the same Sephora was like pulling teeth from a female associate. I told her I had sensitive skin so wanted to try two samples of Decleor Aromessence to see if the dry (Angelique) or sensitive (Rose D'Orient) type one worked better for me. She said flatly, "Get the sensitive one". I then had to press again to even get her to give me a sample of just the Rose d'Orient. And, let me tell you, THEN she took her time getting a container to get a sample for me.... Maybe waiting to see if I stuck around Rolling Eyes
