Hello everyone,
I've been an avid reader of your threads here for quite some time now, and I cannot express how I am greatfull for all the recipes, ideas, and knowledge you have given me.
One of the things I tried to make is DrHCC, it is awesome, works the wonders, but this morning I have noticed that I have some molds growing in the jar. I did not make a huge batch, but also did not put in any preservatives. Would grapefruit seed EO help, and how much should I put in?
I think there was a thread about the same problem but I could not find it today. |

Unless you use an antibacterial preservative, mold is going to be a problem. I would recommend making very small batches, refrigerating what you aren't using, and being very careful to keep water out of it--i.e. not using wet fingers to scope it out. Hope that helps. |

Would you be kind to recommend me an antibacterial preservative; would grapefruit EO be enough? |

Sorry, I can't say whether grapefruit EO would work or not. For DIY purposes, it may be safer and more practical to reduce the possibility of contamination by strategies like I mentioned above--making up small quantities so it will get used up quickly, keeping all but a little bit in the refrigerator, and keeping water out of it. Another suggestion is to keep your fingers out of it so that you don't accidentally contaminate it. (Use a small plastic or metal clean spatula, or even the handle of a clean spoon.) |

Grapefruit EO is not the same as grapefruit seed extract. You can get it at the health food store or use rosemary, lavender or tea tree oil as a preservative but I dont know how stable they are. Best to not touch anything with the fingers too. |
