hello everyone,
lots of new faces here... and some old.
i discovered something about primers recently while applying makeup on a friend's skin.
she had really large pores all over her cheeks, and i didn't realize she already had face makeup on, so i applied the primer over her makeup and it completely covered her pores and made her skin utterly flawless. she was marveling at the effect, wondering why when she put primer on it never really worked for her. we laughed as we figured out that she already had foundation on.
now i use primer as a last step, after tinted moisturizer, foundation, and/or mineral makeup, for those places where i want pores or fine lines to disappear. try it: it dries to an invisible finish and is completely unnoticeable!
by the way, i use the #1 best primer in all the world, monistat chafing relief gel!

avalange, does it have to be monistat chafing relief gel or can it be any monistat's products?? Also, if applying primer after foundation, is it gonna smudge your makeup? Thanks! |

Hi , I am probably one of the newbies.
I will try this tip, I think I will tap it over my makeup, instead of rubbing, so it won't smudge the makeup-do. |

Thanks for the tip!
I wonder though, as primers tend to have silicones that "fill" in your pores, wouldn't putting it over makeup cause the makeup to be "filled" into your pores as well and cause possible clogging of pores for those who are acne-prone?
Just a thought... |

Too funny, I was just reading on another forum the other day comparing ingredients between Smashbox photofinish primer and Monistat Chafing gel. They practically have the same ingredients, although to be fair Smashbox also includes some Vit A, E and green tea extracts. I guess a lot of ladies have started using Monistat Gel as a primer. The silicones uses are basically the same. |

Oh my goodness! I almost dropped when you said you were using Monistat as a primer but you know what....I'm gonna try it! You always hear about people using Peporation H for wrinkles so why not! And I'm definitly going to try using it over foundation to see what different I get! |

well,
silicones themselves are quite comedogenic, so if you are using a primer and you are acne prone, you are already taking a risk there. the silicones are so light, that they just fill in the extra depressions; i don't think they have the ability to 'push in' the makeup further into your skin... however, you could just make sure to deep cleanse your pores afterwards.

hi stardustdy,
it can be ANY silicone-based primer, NOT any monistat product. the only monistat product that can be used as a a primer is monistat chafing relief powder gel. like a commenter above noted, the ingredients of this product and those of smashbox's allegedly good primer are virtually the same.
