Hi All -
I am trying to get rid off some tough sun spots on both of my cheeks. They kind of just appeared early this spring and I've tried lots of products to reduce the hyperpigmentation with not much success (i.e. Prescriptives, Immaculate Correction, HQ - but then I heard bad stories about HQ so stopped)
I've been using Super Skin Lightening Gel (sold on EDS) for almost 4 weeks and I don't think I'm seeing too much of a change, but then I just read on the Super Skin directions to NOT use a vitamin C product when treating the spots. Uh oh. I've been using the Super Skin at night and the Cellex advanced C in the a.m......
Do you know why I shouldn't use both? Should I just stop one or the other? I'm tempted to stop the gel and just use the C or order something more effective yet gentle to get rid of these spots. They make me crazy..."Out out damned spots!!!!" Isn't that Shakespearean or something?????
My skin is pretty decent for a 41 year old, but I'd love to make the spots disappear.
Please help!

Hi, Maria,
The best luck I have ever had in removing dark spots/melasma is to use Retinoids at night/alternating with AHA's if your skin is too sensitive for every night Retin-A use and C serum followed by sunscreen every morning. I have also spot-treated using over the counter lighteners like "Nadinola" that has a 2% hydroquinone formula (usually when my Retin-A was just making me too flaky). I think though, the key ingredient in all of this was the Vitamin C. C limits melanocyte production so hyperpigmentation does not occur. It also lightens up the pigmentation that exists. I cannot say why C would not work with the Super Lightening Gel unless it has some trace metals in it that would render your C ineffective. If it is a glycolic acid base, it would actually increase penetration of your C but the two used together could also be a bit irritating. |

Hi Betterat40!
I have the same problem. I am using vit c and sunscreen in the morning but am interested in trying the AHA/Retin-A Combo at night. I have heard alot about Retin-A here on the site but where do you get it from? And what AHA do you recommend? Is it safe to use quite close to the eye area? Also do you just put the AHA and Retin-A on the area concerned?
Sorry lots of questions!! Thanks for your help! |

Politely butting in,
Retin-a is a prescription only product here in the US. However some people do order online from other countries w/o prescription. I don't know what is the regulation in your country.
Here you seen a derm for your spots? Are you sure they are sun spots? There are some hyperpigmentation that responds well with topical bleaching cream. And there are kinds that will only respond to laser treatments (like what I have).
HTH! |

Hi Mtview,
I don't know I thought they were spots from the sun! I have 4 just below my eye one is actually in the delicate area and are different size. A couple are more like flecks but I have one bigger one. They are the colour of a birthmark and flat. They have only come up in the past 6 months |

| Have you tried Skinceuticals Phyto+ at all? I haven't tried it myself but this is what usually comes to my mind when people talk about pigmentation. There's been some reviews of it here before. |
