Blacklace - the ingredients in the KP Duty are very nice and might just help you w/ your KP. If it doesn't - don't give up. Try a BHA (salicylic acid). The KP duty has urea and an AHA in it (along w/ some other things). Those 2 ingredients can help, but the AHA works differently than a BHA works. An AHA will work on the top of the skin while the BHA gets into the pores and opens them up. That's why it's better for the KP as it will open up the 'plugs'.
Skincare & Winnie - I love the lac hydrin lotion too! It's so hard to find, that I haven't used it in a while. Needed to special order it from the pharmacist when I first tried it years ago. It didn't do much for the KP for me, but was a great moisturizer. |

A timely post - warm weather is finely coming, and the short-sleeved and sleeveless tops along with it! I was just looking at my upper arms in dismay this a.m....
I appreciate everyone's responses about what they've tried, what worked, what didn't. I have some BHA here at home and I'm going to try it starting tonight! |

I agree with everyone that regular exfoliation will help keep it under control.
I personally use Lac-Hydrin |
I also like Lac Hydrin. I have been using it for years for winter itchy legs (recommended by MD). Recently I have started using it after epilating my legs. Excellent over the counter product!!!! Lactic acid to date is my favorite acid which is the ingredient in Lac Hydrin..
I highly recommend dry brushing prior to your shower. You skin will look lovely plus it feels so good. |
I've been procrastinating about getting a dry brush....I should get that also. |

Hi everyone,
Thanks Foxe. I did buy the KP Duty (available in London, Selfridges DermaDoctor counter) and the KP Scrub as well. Yes it has made a visible difference to my skin and the bumps are not as raised as before. I use it twice a day (the cream)also on my legs. In fact I have stopped using any perfumed body lotions or body oils etc for the past 4 weeks or so. I am wondering whether my use of Smashbox body glow triggered this as I was kind of addicted to it for about a year. It is not a miracle product but I can see improvement. The skin visibly looks better, though if I do the 'feel' test on my legs I swear it feels like sandpaper still. Yes there is also the temptation to pick at the little plugs!
My only gripe is that the KP Duty is quite expensive and does not go very far. I have used up two tubes already.
The great discovery though is the KP scrub. I have to say it is the best body scrub I have ever used. Amazing stuff! I have spent years looking for a scrub that did not scratch or have glitter or heavy perfume etc etc and actually felt like a salon exfoliation. Well this is it! I apply it on dry skin and give my skin a good once over esp where I have the bumps. Then rinse off. My skin has never felt that soft and I am noticing it is really helping in those rough areas like elbows and that bit of skin where the bum bit meets the thigh, which has always been a bit dry. Soft as a baby! The scrub comes in a generous tub and goes a long way.
I will look for a good dry brush as well and get some BHA to try as well. Thanks. I do hate this KP and its war!!!!!!!!! |

Sooooo... I wrote that I'd post results about my Neostrata/Apricot scrub combo. It's be very slow going and I haven't been that diligent with it since Neostrata is a boring cream and unfragranced at that. Lol!
However, I noticed that despite my infrequent use of the neostrata, my KP has been getting better with the use of homemade soaps with Avocado Oil. I'm pretty sure there was another thread on EDS about avocado oil and KP.
I bought this soap here:
http://www.skinlicious.ca/prod_thumbs.asp
Gonna write him and ask if he'd make his avocado soap with an exfoliator. |

Kareberry,
Thanks for this. I have some avocado oil. I am going to try it. It is better since using KP duty but everytime I wear stockings it gets back bumpy on my legs or if I use cream hair removers! Irritating. |

For KP, try a lotion called Amlactin. I've had KP since a child and it's gone now. Also, my tummy tuck scar is flat, and a mark that had been on my leg two years disappeared.
Amlactin 12% lactic acid along with glytone cleanser. Amlactin sold at drug stores, but I get mine at dermstore. I works. And in a very short time. Go to dermstore and read the reviews. |

My Husband has this... we just started some KP Duty Samples... it has helped... before we knew what it was I tried Olay Regenerist Dermabrasion... didn't cure it... but a HUGE improvement...
Kp Duty Scrub is cheaper oz for oz... Don't know that the lotion is much of a help... I was thinking of getting Paula's Choice Salicylic Gel or lotion... getting the AHA and and Salicylic Acids... hers is also pretty cheap oz for oz...
Good luck!
I see that the other KP tests were done a while back... any feedback? |

I've attacked my KP with a combination approach--I use an AHA lotion every other day, an abrasive scrub in the shower once or twice a week, and make sure that the area is well moisturized. This has worked for me, though it took quite a while for the little red marks where the bumps had been to go away. I can see why a BHA would be good, but I personally haven't used one. |

Hiya,
Just to update. Still having great results with KP Duty Body Scrub - that product is a keeper. Ditched the body lotion though as it was too expensive and I seemed to use so much of it. That said it worked all round wonders when I had a sunburn recently.
Guess what is working on my KP? Neutrogena Body Oil! Wow that stuff has my skin silky and smooth. I love it as it is sooo light and I can get it at Boots! My skin feels so good when I use it.
Interested in the LacHydrin. Anyone in London know if there is a stockist in the UK? Also a good body brush I can find?
Thanks |

A daily salt scrub sorts out my spotty arms. I just mix salt with oil and a little lemon juice. |

Hello everyone,
Finally found what worked for me to treat / cure my KP. The solution is organic / natural soaps. Soaps with bare ingredients.
Wash yourself with a gentle scrub cloth with some of the organic / natural bar soap rubbed in it. Some organic and natural bar soaps tend to be on the dry side... but not this one... (Olive bar soap) www . fromthemeadows . com
The results are not overnight... you will need to do this for 2 weeks to notice amazing results.
I have always had KP on my arms and thighs and NOW without KP my limbs look so much better and even skinnier (esp. my arms).
In addition, my sister who has the condition 10x worse than I has noticed a tremendous difference too!
I'm guessing there is an ingredient in everyday soaps that irritate our skins. I urge everyone to try to go natural before they go more chemicall-y
Hope this works for everyone! [/url] |

I was just about to ask about KP and found this thread. I blame the London weather but I had this bumpy skin on my arms last year and now it is all over my thighs! HATE IT!!!!!!!
Did not know what it was so I just kept exfoliating which did not do much good. I thought it was from pollution or dry skin etc So now it has a name, keratosis pilaris. Vile. I hoped I could just take a pill and get rid of it but all research says that nothing helps. But this is EDS!!! There is a cure here for everything. I am going to try dermadoctor KP Duty and see if it improves. I am panicking as it really looks awful on my legs - kind of like razor bumps but the worse thing is the way it feels!!! Horrible like sandpaper. Arrggghhhh Do post if anything works dramatically well for any of you. If the KP duty does not work I will see a dermatologis |
There is a pill! I couldn't believe how soft and smooth my arms and legs became after going on the pill (Diane 35). Another pleasant side effect is larger breasts. The physical sensation of bumpiness is very much reduced and I have only been on them for 2 months. |

I have KP on my arms and thighs. I tried many different scrubs, but they really didn't help me. The ones with oil in them just plumped and hydrated the surrounding skin, to make the KP less noticeable.
What DID work for me was pretty much everything foxe recommended. Keralyte 6% worked really well for me, but was too expensive for treating large areas of the body. AHA such as 5% salicylic acid from Diana Yvonne, followed by a mild urea lotion, worked well for me.
Also, I agree with sue_flyer about going natural/organic. When I started using SLS-free shampoo and facial cleansers, the KP on the sides of my face cleared up. When I started using SLS-free body products, the KP on my butt disappeared, and the KP on my arms and thighs is much improved...so much so that I don't bother with the AHA treatment any more.
I'm currently using the rhassoul facial cleansing bar from NCN Pro Skin Care.
For my body, I alternate between 100% Pure foaming shower gel (love the pomegranate) and Burt's Bees Citrus & Ginger Root Body Wash. I will probably NOT repurchase the BB. Although it helped the KP, I am not fond of the scent.
Also, I've started taking weekly "detox" baths, and I noticed my body skin always feels smooth afterwards. I put about a cup of sea salt in a comfortably hot bath along with some big chunks of kelp (aka kombu). Then I add about 10 drops each of essential oils such as lavender, geranium, and juniper berry. I soak for at least 20 mins, and rub the kelp on my limbs. I then do a quick rinse in the shower. |

1. Goat's milk soap really helps me!
2. Taking Omega-3 supplements internally. I think flax seed oil and fish oil are the most helpful. And helps with other skin issues like eczema.
I totally agree about giving up SLS. |

I've used several of the recommended lotions and potions for KP and have had very minimal improvement.
I recently started using the DIY Vit. C spray/toner on my arms (recipe found on page 2 of the DIY Vit. C thread) and it made an immediate 90% improvement. I was shocked, but thrilled. I'm hoping with continued use that the lovely bumps will come to a complete disappearance. |

I agree about the SLS. Even Jurlique has sodium laureth sulfate in their shower gel, very drying and irritating. I noticed that whenever I used products with it, the skin on my legs and arms would get very rough and dry in patches and when I stopped it really improved. Lately I use Belle de Provence and it is lovely, wonderful mild scent (olive and lavender) and my skin is balanced and smooth. HTH |

This is part of an article that appeared in the medical page of today's Daily Mail:-
KP is diificult to remove with creams and exfoliation because they are partly due to genetic factors and diet. ...............
..........
KP develops when there is an excess build-up of keratin within skin follicles. This occurs because of a lack of sebum, the natural protective oil which lubricates the skin.
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are vital in the production of sebum....inadequate sebum levels allow the skin to dry out and become damaged.
.......
Eat more EFAs - oily fish, eggs, walnuts etc. etc...... |

Does anybody have this on their face too? Really want to know. |
I have a problem with KP on my arms I have had it since I was a child. I am sure that I have some on my face also however I have a problem with enlarged sebaceous glands, whiteheads and mila so it's a bit difficult to tell what is what. I think they are probably all somewhat related.
Do you have this issue? I heard it tends to be more prevalent in those of Celtic origin. |
