petroleum jelly inside the nostrils was a god send (Especially during the winter)

for the skin...nothing really helped unfortunately...

What did help a bit was no more baths, and reducing how often I showered

+1 for vaseline for nostrils and my lips at night...Blistex or a lip moisturzer from ROC

In terms of dry skin on my face and body...try to minimize the amount of harsh abrasives like scrubs and loofahs as they seemed to aggravate my already sensitive skin. For my body, I found that really greasy lotions that I normally despise kept me from drying out for longer...

Burt's Bees lemon cuticle cream too!

Thanks for the vaseline tip, I didn't think of that. A few more questions : did your skin become more sensitive while you were on it? Also how long after you start taking Accutane did you start seeing dryness?

First thing I noticed was dry lips...and I lived with carmex lip balm. Had it tucked into every purse, the car, by the bed!!

My face just became less oily, but never really dry. So I just went from lighter moisturizers to those for more normal skin.

Nose: lived with saline solution and vaseline or Mary Kay's Extra Emollient Night Cream...insiders called it Pink Crisco! Embarassed

And when they tell you Accutane dries ALL your mucus membranes, they really do mean ALL of them! Wink

Although Vaseline does the job, apply only a small amount to the very front of your nasal septum. Although very rare, inhaling fat-based substances (lipoids), such as petroleum jelly and mineral oils, for prolonged periods can lead to potential problems. Instead, I used a water-soluble lubricant for the nose.

I also used Biotherm "Aquasource Lèvres" protective lip care with SPF 8 (a little pricey, though).

Visine for the eyes.

I think facial and body creams differ for everyone (i used Neutrogena with SPF for the face); however, I agree with HannaLee, in that a thicker, greasier lotion will lead to more effective and long lasting results. Plus, I found that my skin went through several transformation stages, and so I had to keep experimenting with different products (it was fun for the skin, but not so much for the pocket Sad )

Thanks for the advice about the vaseline. May I know which water based nasal lubricant you used?

Rhinaris lubricating nasal gel. I'm sure there are other brands equally effective. You can probably get it from any drugstore...pretty cheap (if my memory serves me right).

I only used it at night before bedtime because my room is very dry...a humidifier may also be quite useful.

My lips, nose and eyes were the first to dry up. Then my entire face peeled over a duration of a week or so.
Within a few weeks, all the condensed oil from my enlarged pores were being pushed out and I remember rubbing my fingers across my nose and it feeling like a porcupine! (sort of like a biore strip, but without the strip part!) It was interesting. I wonder if anyone else experienced that too...

I was a little self-conscience and insecure at first, but the 5 months of discomfort were well worth the results.

Best of luck!

You should try Avene AC. It is a moisturizer specially made for people who are undergoing Accutane. They also have a cleanser in the same line. I've heard from different people that this saved them!
