Hi, im just wondering whats the best way to get rid of black heads?, it seems like I will always have them on my nose..even if I do get rid of them it seems like my pores are bigger on my nose and black heads will reappear shorty, I've tryed using tea tree oil but it just burns alot, sorta works if I consistantly use it, but seems to dry out my skin like mad..my skin will then have a dry rubbbery wrinklely look/ feeling, ..does anyone please have a sloution on how to get rid of the black heads and how to get it so they dont come back, and replenish my skin.. |

the best way i found to rid myself of blackheads is to squeeze them but however that is not recommended...
no, seriously do you have large pores and oily skin? One thing ive learned is that you don't want to excessively dry out your skin because your skin will want to compensate for the dryness and overproduce sebum(oil). Blackheads are really sebum plus dead skin cells. The tips of them turn "black" due to the oxidation of exposure to the sun/light.
To keep the oil down i use oil. Doesnt sound right but makes sense. My cleansing ritual leaves my face oil free and tight. Just before going to bed (especially in the winter) i put just a dab of face oil (i use jurlique products) on my face so that my sebacaous (oil) glands arent over producing. I find that putting on a mositurizing cream, especially a heavy cream, at night clogs up my pores more. I believe that the skin should be able to "breathe" at night because most of the body's cell regeneration happens during rest.
Of course we all should remember from biology ( ) that as new cell growth occurs in the dermis layer (blood layer) it pushes up cells in the epidermis (there are 4 layers)closer to the top layer ie. away from the blood supply.. causing them to die and flake off. These dead cells mix with oil in the pores and voile blackheads/whiteheads,.. if bacterium is present.
A good exfoliant used 2-3 times per week is great because it sloughs off that upper layer of dead cells and can prevent the constant occurance of blackheads...
oh and most importantly make sure you cleanse your face morning and night ...to get off any dirt/grime that collects in your pores. Also steaming your face for a good 5 mins before you cleanse is highly beneficial
hope this helps...now the hard part..just find good products that will clear you up. What are you using now?

thanks for the advice, lol seriously the only way I could get out the big ones right now was to squeeze them but that would leave a red welt on my nose for a period of time, I was using tea tree oil to help "disinfect" but wouldnt always work, if I didnt get the 'root' of it, it would get infected, and a larger portion of my nose would turn red.
Anyways, I wash my face..(but i dunno what I should wash it with, whats recommended?)and at night was only using tea tree oil. like I said it burned and made my skin dry. but I will try a exfoliant, whats your take on what product I should use?
And I said th oil thing worked for you, I'll try to look into that aswell. thank you |

I would suggest a good BHA lotion or cleanser. (2% or more of salicylic acid). The SA exfoliates the INSIDE of the pores, cleaning out sebum, dirt, etc. so the blackheads are effectively removed. I use a drugstore cheapie - Clean and Clear Bhead Clearing Wash. I put it on for about one minute where the blackheads are about to let it 'soak in' and then rinse. I do this 2 or 3 times each week and it seems to help quite a bit. I can't say that they are completely gone but they are 'under control'.... |

I would have to say that exfoliating helps it a lot. Look for scrubs that you can use 2 or 3 times a week or maybe daily. There is only one scrub that has never made me breakout horribly, Clinique 7 day scrub cream, the only thing, it was too oily for me.
Try Saint Ives Apricot Scrub, i may work. |

why not try professional facials? my sisters and i go once a month and they actually squeeze blackheads out for u along with giving a deep clean and massage, it only leaves a red mark ovenight and is gone by the next morning if done correctly. I wouldnt do it myself, it can leave permanent scars for life. |

The best way I have found so far is a few weeks of consitent twice daily use of the Dr Hauschka cleansing cream. Worked like a charm! I also like the combination of Dermalogica Microfoliant and Decleor Essential Balm. But for me the Dr H cleansing cream has been the best in terms of controlling blackheads. |

Speaking from the nutritional side, blackheads on your nose can be simply from not drinking enough water. I have seen people clear blackheads by beginning to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. Better still to drink one ounce for every two pounds of body weight. In other words, divide your weight in 1/2 and drink that many ounces of water.
I personally don't drink water with chemicals in it like chlorine. We have a well and also treat our water with marine minerals.
We have to remember that the skin is a reflection of our health since it's the largest organ in the body. Many of us are walking around dehydrated and just don't realize it.

Renova is great to keep using or Retin A micro, if you have a sensitive or dry skin Renova is better. Use it on a regular basis. Get deep cleansing facial with extraction once a month.

Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon epsom salts in a couple tablespoons of hot water. Add one drop of iodine and dab it on your blackheads with a cotton ball. Wait about 5 minutes and then wash your face, lightly scrubbing the area with a washcloth. The solution will "leech out" the blackhead from the pore. It will pop right out & get washed away. It works like a charm! |

The epsom salt concoction sounds amazing! I am going to try that tonight!
I too suffer from blackheads and no matter what I do those suckers are back again in a matter of days. I have professional facials, I do my own facials (bad idea as I do have scars now) and have used endless products. My skin is sensitive, but maturing. I never know what to target first! |

Joan,
How did that epson salt treatment work for your blackheads? Isn't it great? It's so easy & cheap, and it really does work! |

I found out that the hi frequency treatment during my facial really help calming down not just the acne and inflammed cysts but also shrinking the enlarged pores that I have around the T zone. Now I am just wandering if any store carries the "personal" version of the hi frequency machine so that I may be able to do it myself after the cleansing routine at night...
By the way, I recently attended a dermatologic seminar hosted by one of the cosmetic line. One speaker actually listed "Saint Ives Apricot Scrub" as one of the many facial scrub that is too harsh, causing "micro" abrasion to the skin... After hearing that I pretty much stop using the product and am actively searching for a scrub that is gentle to the skin and yet does the job well... any suggestions |

If you are looking for a nice gentle scrub I would highly recommend Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads. It's really gentle, feels like you're massaging your face and it does a good job. I'm sure it has won some award in the past (can't remember what though). |

I'm really liking Jan marini's Bioclear lotion for my stubborn blackheads. It's very strong so proceed with caution! Just the teeniest bit will do so the 2oz bottle will last for a long time especailly if you're only going to use it on your nose. |

Has anybody tried the Gatineau Deep Cleansing Foam for blackheads?
I'm not sure if it prevents them but it does claim to soften stubborn blackheads and make them easier to remove.
I've never tried it so don't know if it is any good. Anybody out there had any success with it? |

Holy Smokes!
I could never use the iodine and magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) on my face! Eeek! This would be a recipe for cystic welts for me.
But I do like to soak the epsom salt in the tub. |

Sorry I am so late in responding, but I have been having computer problems lately and am just now back online. You can get the epsom salts and iodine at any pharmacy or drug store, also most supermarkets carry them in with the first aid products. Also, you should have no reaction to the treatment unless you are allergic to iodine (shellfish). In which case just use the epsom salts - it will still work, but the blackheads will just come back sooner.
regards,

This is just my personal opinion but I really think that the only way to get rid of blackheads is to lightly deep cleanse on a daily basis. I could be totally wrong here, but I started to think about this after I had really good results with the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream. Think of it this way, a blackhead is a pore filling up with crap (sebum etc) and then oxidising at the top. When we use a product to get rid of blackheads (masks etc) what we are doing is cleaning out the pore. The moment you clean it up it starts collecting crap again and then you get to the stage where you need to clear it all out again. So, if you do this gently on a daily basis then, in theory, you'll have no problems with blackheads. That's how I justify the effects I get with the Dr H, it cleans out my pores on a daily basis therefore there is nothing in the pores that can get oxidised.
Does that makes sense to anyone else? |

That's actually right on the money!! I actually use a blend of oridinary castor oil and extra, extra virgin olive oil in a 3:1 ratio. I after washing my face with my regular cleanser (and three times per week, following with an "aspirin mask" consisting of five finely crushed uncoated aspirin mixed with a teaspoon of pure honey which I leave on for 15-20 minutes, then add a little water to my fingers and gently buff my face in circles to utilize the aspirin as an exfoliator then rinsing with cold water -- try it, your face will glow and it seriously helps to unclog with blackheads from the pores!!!), before bed I massage in a thin layer of the oil-blend all over my face and go to sleep. In the morning, I wash my face with ordinary Neutrogena blackhead clearing scrub (may not be the exact name of product) and my face has never been in better shape and the blackheads that have been in the bridge of my nose since before I hit puberty (nearly 25 years ago!!) are all but gone now. I don't know if it's the aspirin mask or the oil blend that's doing the job, but I suspect it's a combination of the two. I highly recommend trying this regime! |

I am really late in seeing this topic. I have tried many things over the years for those stubborn blackheads on the nose area. Cleansers can be so individual and you will find a lot of good suggestions on this forum for them. For night a makeup melting one such as Purity Made Simple wiped off with a wet sponge chief and then followed by a non-drying foaming cleanser rinsed off normally is what I do, but cleansers are really really individual and I don't know what I would necessarily recommend in that area unfortunately.
What I would ABSOLUTELY recommend for blackheads is Silver Powder by Mario Badescu. It is a dry powder that comes in a jar and costs about 12 dollars. In the evening after cleansing and drying your face, you dampen a cotton ball or pad, dip it into the powder then pat it onto the areas of your face with stubborn blackheads like the nose area. You leave it on for about 10 minutes then remove it with a toner or astringent. Witch hazel on cotton pads works the best I think, but a toner especially one made to assist with blackheads would probably be fine or even possibly better. It can be a little difficult to get the powder completely off and you might see a slight white cast in some areas left on your face. You can just use more witch hazel but it is probably preferable to be kinder to your skin and do as I do and rinse your face with slightly warm water. Trust me, you will see an amazing difference just from this one product. It doesn't get rid of everything right away, but it does an amazing job and your pores will look better also. Do this a couple of times a week or so if at all possible for the best results unless it dries out your skin. If so do it only once.
The other step that I do after I rinse the last little bit of the Silver Powder off with the slightly warm water is I pat my face dry and apply Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Treatment Mask to the the problem areas where the blackheads occur. It has 0.5% Salicylic acid to penetrate the pores. Leave this on about 5 minutes and then rinse it off as well. Then you can go into whatever nightly care and moisturizing ritual that you like and works for your skin type. This sounds like a lengthy and complicated process, but it isn't and goes quickly. You can do the steps over the commercials if you are watching television at night even. Really simple. Another product that I haven't personally tried but that you might look into is Neutrogena Clear Pore Treatment. You put it on problem areas and leave it on all night. I think it has the Salicylic acid also, but I am not certain. You might take a look at the Neutrogena website and check it out. To me though, the Mario Badescu Silver Powder is the key. It lasts forever and it works wonders for me. If you don't have a store near you that carries it, you can order it off of their website mariobadescu.com.
Sorry for the long post. I do tend to run on and on a bit sometimes. Good luck and I hope you find the solution that you are looking for. |

This is the only full size MB product that I have. I'm still on the fence about this - granted I have only used this a couple of times. After those few times I have not seen any difference - but then again I don't really have terrible blackheads at the moment either.
I do agree with one thing - it *is* hard to remove |
