melasma is hyperpigmentation at a deeper level of the skin compared to sun spots. A lot of experts say that the cause of melasma is hormones. Thus, the "pregnancy mask" that women sometimes get. Also, melasma will tend to "move" around your face a bit. I have two lines of melasma on each cheek bone. Over the years (yes I have been dealing with this for years and years...) the dark lines have moved down my cheeks.
A lot of people with melasma attempt to treat it from the inside with vitamins and healthy diet. Because its so deep in the skin, usually lasers won't help. Its the pits. |
JF, I just typed up what the Remergent guy recommended for Melasma in "The New Science of Perfect Skin" and will PM it to you. |

jf,
I had a spot on my neck that I thought was maybe melasma but now I don't know. LOL. It has faded and gotten smaller but it's not an even lessening which my facialist says is normal. |

This thread made me go on a mini splurge. I bought the Cleansing milk and the Mini scrub. I hope this line of products becomes my HG |

You'll probably want one of the Oxygen products at some point. |

If you have acneic skin I'd ask for a sample of the Oxygen Face. Who are you purchasing from?
ETA: JoElla has a set for congested skin. You might look and see what all that set contains. |

eh, well. I have sun damage on my chest, I dont know if it's melasma, or what it is. But I dont like it.
Now then. I have samples of vita kombi 1, vitamin H, scrub, a moisturiser called 'sweet', (or something like that, for combating dryness) and I have a bottle of the vita kombi oil, and a tube of vita kombi 3.
Shall I start using the vk1 on my chest, in prep for trying the VK3 there? Where does the oil fit in?
Any suggestions?
I have been using NIA24 on this area, and I must say it looks crepey, dry. and blotchy and
I need to moisturise it away from crepiness, and want to fade the sun damage.
(I'm continuing to use the NIA24 products up on my face, and they are doing a good job. Have even been out without make up this week, which I dont think I have done for many a long decade.)
So now I turn attention to my hoary old decolletage... |

Ok I must confess. I know Hydroquione is bad well at least I thought it was bad. I did get some 4% from the dermatologist last year but after I got it I was scared to use it. I did have brown spots on my cheeks and with over the counter products they have not disappeared no matter what I have tried. liquorice extract, glutathione, arbutin, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, kojic acid,acai berry.
After I have been rolling with the Dermaroller the last month or so I put the Hydroquione for about a week and the spots are 95% gone.
I am of HRT so I am hoping they do not come back. I think they were from my years of Birth control bills and HRT that I am off of now.
Catski sorry I don't have an answer for your neck. |

Platinum, from everything I read, the hydroquinone scare is grossly overrated. Check out your book by the Remergent guy and you will see his comments to that effect. |

Platinum,
That's great news. How are the cheek wrinkles coming along? I've seen some of my clients who've used Hydraquinone have bad rebound issues with even more spots later. I'm not sure why that is. I'll be anxious to hear how you guys do with the Remergent. I thought it was a lovely line, the DNA repair has the best feel and the Antiox was probably my favorite product. I just never had results with it. I think someone theorized that the more sun damage or the older you are, the better results you get. My friend and I who are the same age saw no results. Maybe the roller will put it into overdrive. For me, NIA did more. |

Hey Catski,
Try a few drops of the VKoil on your face and a little more on your chest. Add the amount you need, start with a pea size, of the Kombi 1 and apply to your chest. After six or seven minutes, add your sweet cream. At night, you can either substitute the oil for the Vitamin H or if you like use both. After a wee or twok, add the Kombi 1 at night too. As I understand it, the VK 3 is for spot treating and you are to apply to the spots you wish to lighten. I saw a rec to do that up to three times a day. I'd probably hold off on that at first. I hope you had luck. As you know, I had great luck with the NIA on my chest. Sounds like you didn't. |

Just an FYI....I have to stop using KH for the most part.
Even though I cut back to 1x every other day, I was still a tomato head. But when I stopped using it completely, my skin returned to it's usual level of paleness within 3 or 4 days.
But I am going to continue using my products up on Saturday Spa days, and may actually keep using the Essential Mask on an ongoing basis for that purpose.
Needless to say, I am totally bummed. |

i am one of those people that rebounded with more spots after using the hydraquinone. i have to say that i have melasma and not sun spots. the hydraquinone always worked really well when i applied it to my spots, especially when i was younger. however, the second i went in the sun, even with sunscreen, my spots came back and they seemed darker. also i would notice more spots would appear. i'm not sure if its b/c i applied the hydraquinone on skin that didn't have spots or what. and maybe i didn't have enough sunscreen on. very frustrating |

Isn't that one of the known side effects of using the Hydraquinone? One client told me she used hats, high spf and still came back worse. maybe it only does that for certain people? |

Oh, that's too bad Bethany ! I too experienced some redness early in the process (and when I was using LED in combination with KH), but have not had problems with it since.
Well, you do what you have to do to keep your skin healthy and feeling/looking good. I hope your Saturday Spa days continue to go well and give you good results. |

Guys, can you remind me what is the verdict on the KH Mild Scrub? I am placing my next order today and am not sure whether to include the Mild Scrub or not.
I suffer from hormonal breakouts and do have congested pores (although significantly less now that I've switched to KH).
The rest of my order is going to be:
* Professional Cleanser
* Essential Mask
* Oxy Body 3%
Let me know what you think. |

platinumrose, I am just much too wary of HQ to even try it. If the sun damage were to worsen again, I would be mortified. As it is, I had made great progress with it, then I dermarollered the area and POW, I suddenly had loads of sun damage.
Blues, I have written down your suggestions and off I jolly well go with it. Thankyou, I appreciate it. |

Rubby, I haven't used the LED for maybe a month, so it wasn't that. And I was able to isolate it to the KH by using it just by itself (with no other products like 302 topicals).
My skin would look really good and be the typical color, and within a day or 2 of using KH, I would be red, and it wouldn't go away unless I stayed off KH for 3 or more days.
Then I thought maybe it was because I was using emu oil over it on occasion, but even after using KH exclusively for 2 weeks I was still red, red, red.
But the KH made my skin feel fantastic, which I will really miss.
Oh well...on to the next line, sigh. |

Hi Rubby,
I was hoping someone who used the product would answer. I think that Vonstella, Scally, and others are using it. I seem to remember some loving it. I know JoE recommends it with the OF for more congested skin. It's part of the Oxygen facial as well. She recs using the OF first, then the scrub to get rid of the ickys loosened from the OF. I plan on getting it when I'm done with my NIA scrub. Wish I could help more. |

I use the scrub twice a week in the shower. I always have a little cleanser on my face also. The grains are very small which I like, and my skin feels really clean after. All in all I like it more then other scrubs I've used. |

I received the Oxygen Face and Essential Mask today and of course want to give them a try tonight. I was planning on the mask for a half hour then the oxygen face before bed. But I did a test spot of the essential mask on my forearm and it seemed to turn the skin a lighter shade for a while and it stung. Is that normal? I'm a little afraid to use it on my face now, but want to try it so badly. |

Diana,
What other products are you using? You might try the mask tonight but only go for ten minutes. See what happens. I've never had it sting before. It sounds like the oxygen working. You could use both products tonight in a facial type way to get accustomed to them. |

Diana.
I wanted to clarify what I said. I've felt sensations before from the oxygen but it's not what I would classify as stinging. How we feel things is pretty subective so you may very well feel it as stinging. Does that make sense? |
