Doing some browsing and found thsi article on Prep. H. Apparently this product only sold in Canada. Would like your feel on this:
http://www.prep-h.com/prep_unque.html
What they are saying is the old version only sold in Canada tightens the eye area and helps wrinkles etc. |

It is true. You can also use it for swelling around the eyes. Like after you cry. Just dab it on. Great for pimples too. Shrinks them. |

I've used the 2 active ingredients alone and it works.Squalene (shark liver oil) and live yeast cells. I bought a product called ZellOxygen which is a fermented yeast product added a little squalene and it did the trick.
I don't use this very much..I'm afraid of overusing.
I have to warn you that the ZellOxygen doesn't smell too good.
Winnie, what a great amount of information in that link you provided. I have to give it a thorough read. |

Several months ago I read an interview featuring a spokesperson for Whitehall Laboratories, which makes Preparation H, and she said that the old version contained Live Yeast Cell Derivative, the ingredient responsible for the tightening effect when used around the eyes. The newer version does not contain Live Yeast Cell Derivative. Just think of all the cosmetic business they lost when they made that decision! I'm lucky--I've got a very old box of Prep H suppositories from back in the days when I had my first child and had to sit on a donut pillow for 2-3 months after labor. The stuff still works like a charm around the eyes. I use it once in a blue moon when I wake up and find that I have Puffed Wheat eyes. Shrinks those bags like magic.

Queenpedauque,
Do you know what it is that squalene is supposed to do for skin? I'd love to know because I'm using a squalene serum at the moment
TIA,

Mabsy, I wish I could offer more info on the squalene.
I first bought a Japanese brand as a moisturizer..the bottle claimed it was good for fine lines. I likes it very much but stopped using it.
When I began using the copper peptides,a biological oil was recommended to help the cps work. The 2 suggested were emu oil or squalene. The emu oil is heavier. The squalene is very light. Both absorb really well and are called lipid replenisher by the skinbiology site. I did feel bad about using the emu. I'm sure they have to kill the bird to get the oil. Now sharks..they don't arouse such sentiments. |

I do know that I've heard of using Preparation H on the face for at least 10 years. I also know that it's not uncommon for the FDA to require different ingredients in products from what Canada requires, although most of the time Canada's requirements are the more restrictive.
I did find through a search on squalane that it can come from shark liver oil, but it can also come from plant sources, olives being one.

mmmmmm but sharks are becoming an endangered species and emus are farmed, just like big chickens. Me, I'd go for emu if I was being ecological

I had understood that they don't harm the emu to get the oil. That may not be correct, but that is what I have heard.

guapagirl, my boyfriend did mention that about sharks. I guess I have to believe him now.
And judy says squalene doesn't necessarily have to come from sharks.
But another thing about emu.. I really do believe it increased the length and the amount of peach fuzz on my face. I remember reading something about how it activates dormant hair follicles. Not really a problem for most, but me...yes. |

Hmmmmm. Maybe I'd better let my husband rub it on his head!
From what you read, do you think it would work for that?

Judy,
It really is being used for hair growth. If a follicle is dead, it won't work but if the follicle is dormant, it could work. I can't find any studies on web pages that aren't trying to sell the product as a hair restorative though.
You have to scroll down to hair regrowth on this link:

Oh No!!! I love Emu oil. I put a capful in my tub every night. Put it in my shampoo, body creams etc. Been noticing a few chin hairs. Really, my daughter uses it too and has said that her peach fuss on her face is more noticable. Thank God shes blonde. Never knew Emu could do this. Those darling birds are getting back at us. |

Hey Winnie...
If you're soaking in it every night and all you're getting is chin hairs, that's pretty lucky, don't ya think?
Better be watching out for hair on your chest though.

I so need to tell my other half about the Emu Oil then!
I just finished my sample of the Squalene the other day. It was nice - oily but very light (if that makes sense at all). I was using this day and night until I figured out that it was giving me the oilies during the day. I started using it just at night and it was fine. I would probably buy this in the future but at the moment I have way too much stuff to get through. |

Emu oil is rendered from a thick layer of fat on the back of the bird. I'm pretty sure the bird would need to be dead to do that. I certainly hope it is! |

Hmmmmm. I'll have to research this on the internet. But, if he's dead, I guess it wouldn't "harm" him.

I think I'll stick to eating olives. |

I just read in "Prevention" magazine that the chemical that is in Prep H that is used to shrink hemorrhoids will also cause temporary "tightening" (so perhaps a lifting effect) of the facial skin if you use it before a special event, just like more expensive temporary creams will do. |
