Actually I was always looking for these "dermal repair" products to ease my sensitivity with Differin and as a suitable protective barrier during my break days. But you must analyse the ingredients carefully as I have found some to contain many harsh and stimulating actives which are not suitable for an impaired skin barrier at all!
A friend has mentioned to me to avoid Cetareth derivative ingredients as they are not recommended for impaired skin barriers. Cetareths are a fatty acid derived mainly from plants.
Another handy tip - consider wait times between product application immediately after cleansing and between products. It works wonders!! I have oily acne prone skin too, but I have not found the long wait times to be an issue. I spritz a low % glycerine toner to help prevent the skin from being taut. I wait about 10-20 minutes after cleansing (especially after a shower) before applying a moisturiser and this reduces my sensitivity immensely.
The most immediate target to strengthening skin barrier is a TOPICAL - pH correct and non penetration enhancing moisturiser, other things like diet and such take months to show benefit and if your skin barrier is very impaired internal supplements will probably never be able to correct that. Taking good quality fatty acids (like fish/plant oils with a guaranteed omega 3 content) is very good for plumping the dermal layer, although individual results vary depending on if your body is lacking fatty acid supplementation somewhere else. |
