Calcium Ascorbate Powder - OK for DIY Vit C serums?

I'm new to DIY experiments, so am in need of some advice.

I ran out of my Vit C serum today and decided to take the plunge and make my own. I have some glycerin at home so just needed to get some vit c crystals or powder. I went to my local healthfood store, and they sold me Calcium Ascorbate Powder (Buffered Vitamin C formula). They said it was pure Vitamin C powder. It wasn't until I got home that I followed the golden rule and *read the ingredients* - which say: Calcium Ascorbate (nothing else).

A couple of internet checks assures me that this is Vit C, but I don't know if it's the right sort for making serums. Advice please? Many thanks!

The most readily absorbable vitamin C for serum is L-ascorbic Acid and it's the easiest for DIY formulators I think.

I get all of my actives at Bulkactives, The Personal Formulator, GOW or Cellbone, and have experimented with several different recipes. I believe you can also get the crytsals at Whole Foods also.. Just be sure it's pure, without any fillers.

I'm not familiar at all with the one you purchased, so I'm not sure how to advise you. Hopefully someone who uses it will chime in.

If you get the pure L-Ascorbic Acid crystal/powder, I'll be happy to help you formulate a nice serum.

If you do decide to go the DIY route which I highly recommend, you might also want to add the following to your order....They make for a topnotch serum, comparable to the $125.oo plus ones selling everywhere... The best part is, that 1oz will cost you a couple of dollars... Very Happy

Ferulic Acid (not mandatory, but trust me, you'll be glad if you get it)
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (a bit pricey and not easy to come by. Also not mandatory, but makes a killer serum) Everything you need from one place, can be found at;
