Hi all,
All this talk about "going green" is making me rethink my skin and hair care habits. I've always considered myself health conscious, but I admit I paid attention only to what I put in my body, not on it. I've recently started taking a closer look at the ingredients on some of the products I'm using and, well, to say I'm shocked by what I see is an understatement. Unfortunately, the reality of our world is that we'll never be able to completely eliminate all toxins. We can, however, try to reduce the number we're exposed to. This is why I'm considering giving up my beloved Decleor products (which are laden with parabens) in favor of more natural, less chemical products. But having never really tried natural, organic products (paraben, phthalate, and sulfate free), I can't help but question their effectiveness. Is anyone currently using organic products? If so, are you satisfied with them? Have you been able to adopt an all-natural skin and hair care regime?

Some of the lines I like are LUSH Angels on Bare Skin and Babyface cleansers. Those are natural and I also like the body butters. They do use parabens in the moisturizers but they are the last ingredients on the list. I have had no problems with them compared to other lines where I think it was the parabens that made my face burn and be sore. However, I dont use LUSH moisturizers to be totally safe. The other stuff has colours and sparkles but what I like about them is that they are upfront about the ingredients when products here didn't list them years back.
I am testing John Masters Organics right now but I am not sure about it yet. The price is really decent and the ingredients look to be a good combo of antioxidants and soothing ingredients.
I also tried a sample of the PSF Moisture Lotion and really love it though its not enough emollience for my face right now but nor is it irritating. I might check it out next.
Other lines that I have researched for ingredients and quality are Saje, Cranberry Lane, Kosmea, Nature's Creations and Kimberly Sayers. I think from what I could tell these look non-irritating and natural compared to say Origins which is not really natural or even Befine which I think is a joke. |

Perhaps all the nature brands also use anti-bacteria stuffs.I remembered one guy said to Dr.Hauschka,"if you don't use preservatives, how could you make your products stay long."
I know one japanese skincare line has no preservatives, but you have to finish everything you opened in one month--3 months(?). It is Fancl, you can try to search it.
Another thing is that nature compounds are not safe as you expected. Here is a post telling some drawbacks of essential oils.

erm.. i think avalonn organics is a good brand to try.. suki from EDS as well..
there's lots of brands that are 'green'... u just need to know how to look at the ingredient list.. as long as the chemicals/ preservatives are not at the tope of the list.. i guess it's not making a big impact and it's strictly for preservation purpose..
but just bear in mind that.. the more natural products need to be used up more quickly, to be safe.. |

Wow. I'm so naive - I never even considered that they might do that. Is it because their products last a while?
I've been using the Dr. H brand and then fooling around on him on the side. I'm increasingly moving towards using only Dr. H skincare (and some mineral makeup for cosmetics and the dreaded sunscreen) and simplifying my routine. The more I do the worse my skin seems to get. And when I stop and just go back to Dr. H, I get better. Hard to argue with that. |

Thank you all for your comments!  It looks like there are pros and cons to using natural/organic products. It's probably not realistic to think I can rid myself (and my bathroom drawers) entirely of chemicals and preservatives, but I'll certainly try to reduce my exposure to them by selecting less "toxic" products... and there are quite a few good ones on the market, as you've pointed out. Let the search begin! |

I use almost their whole line and have experienced WONDERFUL results. Their products are so pure and refreshing and I love using them. Another good website to check out would bewww.greatnewskin.com . They are natural products and they have just recently gone paraben-free too. Last but not least, definitely check outwww.100percentpure.com ---- not only do they have "green" skincare, they also sell really amazing cosmetics and body care products. I am addicted beyond belief to their gorgeous nectarine body cream. HTH! |

Thank you! I found the 100% pure Rose hydrosol is a very good deal. I would like to buy several bottles (to avoid shipping fee) to do mask care with paper masks. |
