I have pigmentation which has started to form on my cheek bones. I have tried products in the Clarins, Dermalogica and Sothys range which are meant to help... no luck.
Can any one make any suggestions? |

Those products you tried - what were they made for, specifically? Do you use sunscreen? I find my skin tone has evenned (sp?)out considerably with regular exfoliation and vitamin C serum. I have slight freckles on the side of my cheek that gets hit by the sun when I drive, but these are fading somewhat, and I attribute it to the C serum mainly.
A lot of people on here who have pigmentation problems like Obagi, though I wouldn't use it myself because of the hydroquinone in it.
Since yours is only forming, I believe a good sunscreen and vit C serum are all you may need.
Sorry I can't be of more help than this! |

I had hyperpigmentation on my face from a levulan + blue light treatment that went poorly (diagnosed as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). For me, vitamin C made it worse/browner - while it works for a lot of people, the acid in the product can sometimes make pigmentation worse and I was one of those cases. Over exfoliating would do the same thing - my skin was pigmented from 'injury' due to the treatment and exfoliation was injuring it again which made it produce more melanin.
The only thing that worked for me was a product called Enlighten by Osmosis. Joella Milan carries it on her website (or google Osmosis Skin Care) I was happy it does not have any hydroquinone in it.
Oddly enough its a dark brown liquid you apply 2x a day. I am very very fair, so it would leave my skin (temporarily, until washed off) 'browner looking' if I didn't put anything over top. So, after the Enlighten dried I applied Decleor's neroli oil or my moisturizer to blend the product into my skin...and followed that with sunscreen! |

Myamax, how long did it take for you to see results with Enlighten? I read that it causes the skin to darken at first because it's pulling pigmentation out from the skin. Is that true? Thanks for any info you can provide. |

Pure Skin Formulations has a skin lightening product. The area around my eyes is darker than the rest of my face. For over a month I have done my best to be consistent using this product. I clearly see the area is getting lighter.

When did you ordered your enlighten?? I had one bottle about 6 months ago and yes, it's dark brown. I got 2 about 1 month ago and the color is much, much lighter. They might change the ingredients.

Is that a new PSF product? I haven’t heard of it before, and i like PSF, but maybe I just missed it somehow.
Can you use it over the whole face, or is it better just for spot treatment? |

I believe it is a fairly new product. Yes, you can use it on your whole face. |

Do you mind to do laser surgery? I saw a thread that someone did it for scars, and it worked pretty well. But it will hurt a little...
To prevent the pigmentation, sunscreen is the most important. |

Hi Renata - it didn't take long, I would say I started to notice results (using it 2x/day faithfully) by the end of week 2. It wasn't gone in 14 days, but I noticed a difference. As a nice 'side effect' the product helped with my hormonal acne in my chin area - due to the retinaldehyde in it. It did not darken my skin that I noticed, other than the color of the product being darker on my skin after application. Took two bottles to lighten my skin and it has stayed that way! |

Hi MACrisis - I ordered my Enlighten sometime around 7 or 8 months ago. They did change the formulation a little while ago (February-ish) to add a 10th lightening ingredient...that may have changed the product color. It took two bottles to get my skin where I wanted it and both of those were the old/darker formula. I am very pleased with the results and my skin has stayed lighter so far. How is it working for you? |

With the old formula, because it's so dark I did not want to use it in the morning. Now I'm using Retin-A at night so I only use it in the morning. Can I use it on top/under retain-A?
I'm on my 2nd bottle now and I see some improvement. Mine is melasma, brown patches, not just few spots so I think it'll take much longer than yours to fade. |

I'm terrified of skin pigmentation. I don't have much now (I'm 21 though), just a few freckles here and there but I really don't want it to get any worse. I don't want to have to resort to drastic measures later on so I'm focused on prevention now. I don't want to see myself getting even one more freckle that is not on my face right now. They look cute now, but I don't know how cute they're going to look in 30 years...
To that end, starting with a few weeks ago, I've made a commitment to wearing sunscreen every day. In the past I've worn some sunscreen but not religiously, only in the summer, and without concerning myself with the ingredients. So, I think a good sunscreen is an absolutely vital weapon again skin pigmentation. |
