I'm just always shocked at the price of makeup. Everytime I go to the store to buy some more Jane Iredale makeup shades I end up spending at least $100-200. And I've gone several times already. I think the reason I don't just buy everything all at once is that I couldn't handle seeing that large of a bill at once. I regret some things, wondering why did I just spend $24 on her blush when there are other MMU blushes for just $6. Although I did like the shade. I don't know.
Then I went to compare other standard makeup brands like Bobbi Brown and Smashbox and others and they are all around the same prices. About $20-24 per eyeshadow and per lipstick etc. Do you think that these higher priced cosmetics are worth it and how much do you think you spend for your makeup bag collection? |

Not much, but I do spend on skin care. I wear make up only for special occasions. My biggest make up investment is the MAC 190 brush, which is awesome. I also have the MAC concealer, which is great but recently I haven't been wearing it. |

I do spend quite a bit, once I think I am over a phase - last year it was loose powders and lipsticks (I've collected just about every major Japanese brand) now it is eyeshadow palettes and singles, and mascaras....... now that my collection is full and my enthusiasm has waned - although I still collect LE seasonal releases and there are FOUR releases for every major Japanese brand - I have moved onto higher end skincare. There is always something to tempt me. |

I don't spend much on make-up at all, but I do spend on skin care (I'm a Dr. H fan).
I could never tell the difference between cheap make-up, like eye shadows and such, and really expensive brands... I have tried both cheap drug store stuff other brand name stuff, and they don't seem to make a huge difference.
Maybe on lipgloss, but not other stuff...
The most expensive make-up stuff I have must be MAC pressed powder. |

im happy to say at this moment and for the past 5 years $0 although iv been thinking to start applying mineral makeup but i have not actually gotten round to doing that as i am confused with all tht is out there lol. i probly dont even need it i just want something that will give a flawless look and hide any uneven skin tone without looking like i have makeup on or cakey look.
so for now im just reading the threads on this forum and seeeing what powders etc everyone is using and maybe il have the guts to try something n not be dispointed with wasting my money |

I spend a lot on makeup. However, I don't spend much in other areas. I guess it evens out. I have way more than I need, but I'm always tempted by the next thing. Makeup is like comfort food to me. It cheers me up. I love playing with it. As for quality, I find that high-end is often better, but not always. Some of my favorite things have been by Wet-n-Wild, Almay, and Loreal.
I will say that I only feel guilty over high-end purchases that I end up not liking. It's one thing to try out a $5 eyeshadow palette and not like it, and another whole issue to try out a $50 palette and not like it. I'm going through that right now with a Nars blusher and highlighter set. The colors are just not right for me, but I keep using them because they were so expensive that I feel like I must. On the other hand, I bought an Almay lippie the other day on sale for $3. I used it a couple of times and just was not happy with the shade, so I tossed it. No guilt, no burden... |

When I was younger I spent a fortune on makeup. Now that I am a mature woman I spend very little. IMO older women look better with the bare minimum. Believe me, I make up the difference with skin care products. |

I'm lucky to have not spent much money on makeup in the last few years. I received most of the Bobbi Brown basics starter kit for free as I'm a makeup artist for the brand.... stick foundation (which I love), the new moisturising cream compact foundation, moisture rich liquid foundation, corrector, concealer kit, face powder, bronzer, shimmer brick (Rose) and a few of their colour like blush and lip colour. I do like the quality and formulations having worked with it.
If I come across products that receive mentions in beauty experts bibles like Beautique or Culture (magazines) I'll hunt them down. What I've learnt is that you usually get what you pay for. It's okay to be thrifty on things like glosses. Skimp on eyeshadows although pigments can be insipid...but a good foundation is worth investing in. Results and finishes speak for themselves.

Ditto! I'll get a dept store makeover once in a while, but I know I won't make the time to do it every morning, so there's no point in buying the whole lot.
I spent so much $$ on stuff I never used when I was younger, and ended up tossing even high-end stuff. Now I know myself better! |

My makeup is mainly highend, but it lasts a long time. I feel that by washing my breushes frequently, I don't need to worry as much about contamination in things like blush and eyeshadow. (Mascara is a different matter. I don't wear it often since I have naturally black, reasonably thick lashes, so I usually end up tossing three quarters full mascara tubes every few months...grrr...) Since I generally wear neutral colors, I don't need an enormous stash of stuff compared to my daughter, who has a rainbow of eyeshadow shades, for example. So, in comparison to skincare, my makeup habit turns out to be dead cheap. |

I too dont spend much on makeup but spend lots on skincare. I like to think it will help with the aging process, at least slow it down. |

I can tell you, but then I'll have to kill you afterwards.
To be honest, I'm spending too much, but less than before since I'm now more into MMU, and have found my HG mascara. On a daily basis, I use MMU, undereye concealer (either BE Summer Bisque or YSL Touche Eclat/TE equivalent by Chanel), mascara (Max Factor Masterpiece=HG, but Kanebo 38° when I want something waterproof), and sometimes also eyebrow pencil. I hardly ever wear anything on my lips apart from lipbalm (Weleda or Decleor). |

A lot more than I should, but I feel like it is something that is worth it. I spend a lot on my skincare products, so I don't want to buy makeup that goes against the effectiveness of the products. I like makeup that doesn't feel cakey, matches my own skintone, last a long time without needing to reapply often and feels clean. I love MMU, it can be a bit expensive, esp. with all the brushes, but it lasts a long time. I usually don't replace anything for a good 5-6 months, and I wear it everyday. I love all my MAC eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses, and lipliners and they last a long time too. So the price is worth it to me. But once you have your base products all you really have to do it add new colors or replace the ones that run out.
I like drugstore mascara, and eyeliners....I think they work just as great, like Almay, Maybelline etc. |

I don`t spend much money on makeup, but I spend more and more on skincare, especially since I found this forum
I do believe that having beautiful skin and slowing down ageing are priority.
I wear a minimum of makeup in everyday life - mascara, lipbalm or lipgloss and a touch of powder. I like it simple and quick. |

Hi, too much, lol!! I love makeup, esp. lipglosses, foundations and any "new" limited edition items.
I also love my skincare as well. Too many products, too little time. |

I also have to answer with 'too much'. I love the products that I already have (a lot) but I am curious when a new mascara/eyeshadow/lipstick is being launched and claimed to be 'better than before' . It is my weakness, but it is a cheaper * spam alert * than designer bags and such. |

Love makeup, just started experimenting with mineral brands. I buy at EDS as it is so much cheaper than UK. I just splashed out tonight but I think you have to be real careful as you may end up not using half of it and then of course it has a shelf life. Buy sensible if that's possible with so many tempting must haves! |

I feel like that I don't buy a lot of make-up, but I buy more expensive make-up.
Recently I bought Laura Merceir tinted moisturizer because my skin is not that great. Now that I have it, my skin improved that I don't even need it anymore. |

I dont really spend that much on makeup, purely cos I cant master the application and I'm too lazy to get up an extra half an hour to get it done. I do use MMU and concealer and occassionally mascara but other than that, I dont wear e/s, lipstick, gloss etc. However, I do like buying it cos the colours looks so pretty and I'm sure that I will use them one day
So I guess the average I spend on makeup is about £10 ($20)p/m |

Same!! Simple foundation and mascara - sometimes I get my eyelashes tinted and then I can really sleep in! But I am a collector of make up - I buy it just in case. My boyfriend thinks I should throw it out because I never really wear it, but I don't think I can part with it |

I spend a good deal on make-up, but I only wear a Light Mineral Foundation & a Matte bronzer [being as I am male ] and a brow Pencil. On average I spend 30 on Foundation, 20 on bronzer, and 14 for the brow pencil.
I personally think that it's not really the price that makes the make-up, obviously. I find somethings that cost a ton and suck, and some things that aren't expensive at all and work amazing. Currently, my few makeup products are all MAC. I like the packaging, product, & price.
