I just got a bunch of makeup by Jane Iredale and just read that Dimethicone and all the other silicones are toxic synthetics that are like putting plastic on your face. Virtually all of the products by Jane Iredale are loaded with this stuff. All of them. I haven't had any problems from wearing it. No bumps or breakouts, but I'm bummed and annoyed now that I thought I was getting a pretty much non-toxic "inert" brand of makeup and then find out that it is loaded with toxic synthetics itself. Sad

"Dimethicone is synthetic emollient that is a known tumor promoters and accumulates in the liver and lymph nodes. It is also non-biodegradable, causing negative environmental impact."

Do you think that silicones are really toxic? Do you use products with them?

Dimethicone is inert and nontoxic. Some people find that they break out from products containing silicones like dimethicone, but I know of no evidence that suggests that topical dimethicone is toxic or unsafe.

By the way, the information from the website you linked to appears to be a mishmash of factual, fanciful, and completely non-factual "information." Not surprisingly, it contains no links or references to any scientific literature. Remember, anybody can create a website and say anything they want--there's no quality control on the Internet. One good source for objective information about chemicals is Wikipedia--they do link to scientific journal articles, and misinformation on Wikipedia gets corrected pretty quickly. The Internet is a great source of information, but only if we are informed consumers. That means not believing everything just because it's on a webpage--particularly a webpage seeking to sell you something.

Silicones are also often used in medical grade products, of course one can always make a distinction between the purity of silicone compounds but that should not be confused with the actual function of the substance itself.

There are also various silicon-media bandages that can be used in raw wounds, surely if it was known to cause long term side effects once absorbed into the body, there would not be so much research dedicated to pioneering novel silicone compounds for internal use.

i know it is non toxic but i am not sure does it really bad to our skin? It is said that the "cone" thing would gradually block the skin as it cannot be removed. For long time use of dimethicone, it will cause the skin difficult to absorb skincare product. Is it the FACT?
