I know this is a strange question, but when I think about my breakouts I can not explain whether I have whiteheads, or just plain pimples or clogged pores. For example, when I look closely in my 10X mirror, I see what looks like dirty pores (not blackheads, I know what those look like), but when I squeeze my check or chin, long stringy white things come poring out of my pores. What is this *whiteheads"? I also get a lot of (I mean a lot of) pores that start out like a pimple (which I am sure they are, they are red and raised, not big, small. But in a matter of an hour or two the redness is gone and now their is a head at the top that I can squeeze it out? Are those whiteheads?? If so, how can they come on so quickly, rapidly? I am a freak about making sure I don't where a lot of products and I cleanse my face twice a day. (I did start a new routine) it is helping greatly, but still getting these types of pimples? I would like to better understand, am I causing them by "not cleansing well"? "By applying something that my skin does not agree with"? Does anyone understand what I am trying to say? And can you explain? |

Are you in a good mood?
I have some pimples actually very tiny and with a whitehead on the top of it, the whitehead is actually the skin which is transparent. The whi te color comes from the inside dirty stuff which was dry sebum now become liquified. They usually appear in several hours, and when I break them, they will also disappear in several hours.
I found when my mood is not good, or stay up late at night et al, I will get such stuffs. I am not sure whether it is the same as yours. |

I am usually in a good mood, but I find no rhyme or reason to them. All I know is I started getting these about two-three months ago, previous to this, never had thing like this., Sure I had pimples and breakouts, but not red (small) pimples that turn into a white/clear like liquid on the top that I can squeeze out, and yes they go away quickly in the sense that I squeezed the stuff out, but the bumps stay around for a while. And it is amazing how quickly they come, four, six,ten in a matter of one day. The next day, more and more. There has to be a product that can prevent these. What is happening with my skin...how can I get them overnight? I am sleeping and have nothing on my face. I am not stressed or in a bad mood while I am sleeping, I am just sleeping. Do you think I should squeeze them (?) I have too, I can not go around with whiteheads popping up on my face...everyone can see them... |

I am really sorry.
My pimples are not really, instead, it is only a white point there, I don't need to squeeze them, I only press them, then they broke.
I think as you just got them recently, it is probably due to the changes of either your skincare products or the environments.
I know you even put BP on your face and some other strong chemicals. I am really unable to solve your problem, your case is too extreme for me. |

I'm not sure but it sounds like congested skin. Or perhaps product build up under your skin
Perhaps try changing your pillowcase every night. I get what you're describing and I think I cleanse my face properly, though I probably don't exfoliate as often as I should. Perhaps that would help? |

I do change pillow case, wash cloth and towels every day. If it is congested skin, how come I can clean all my pores out and then an hour later I have all kinds popping up. Or if I leave it alone, I have pop-ups as well. I exfoliate, that does not work either..... |

I believe that the things you call dirty pores are whiteheads. As far as I understand pimples, whiteheads and blackheads are pretty much the same type of acne. The only real difference between them is that the blackheads have a black top to them because they are open, and the melanin in that pore reacts to the oxygen which turns it black. Whiteheads are closed, so they don't turn black. Whiteheads are also sometimes referred to as congested pores because that's basically what they are. In both whiteheads and blackheads, the pore is blocked (congested) with oil and dead skin cells. They don't get inflamed because the P.acnes bacterium is not active in those pores.
The other kinds of pimples you describe sound like pustules. The whitetops which form on those are the dead white-blood cells which have come to attack the P.acnes bacterium which was active in those pores (which is why it was red and raised).
To help your pimples, first you really should not be squeezing at them. I know this is hard, believe me!
Second, for the whiteheads/congested pores, what really will help is using an exfoliant. This helps because it helps the pore get the stuff that is blocking it out. Right now I am using Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid and that seems to have helped a lot. Using an exfoliant will also help with the other kinds of pimples since there won't be congestion in your skin for the P.acnes to feed upon (sounds super gross when I put it that way).
I know other people on this board have used other kinds of methods to exfoliate their skin, so maybe they can chime in with ideas. I know retinols are a popular method (and I'm looking to incorporate that into my regimen) because they help to re-shape the pore and help it function more normally, so it doesn't get congested in the first place. HTH. |

Hi Berquis! I used to deal with the exact same issue so I know it well. The first thing you might want to consider is product build-up in your pores. Take a look at your moisturizer, serum, and foundation ingredients. If you are seeing a lot of silicones that could be what is contributing to your problem. You might want to cut silicones out for a few weeks and switch to a silicone-free moisturizer (such as Chrysalyx, Zenbiotic's Phyto Moisture/Moisture Enrich, etc) and see if that helps. Next, definitely try amping up your exfoliation. I love the combination of a clarisonic brush (seriously, this thing is a pore cleaning miracle!), EpidermX scrub, tazorac, and the occasional Juice beauty Green Apple peel. My pores are so clear right now thanks to this routine, I couldn't find anything to pick at even if I wanted to! |

Manslayerliz,
I'm so glad you said that about the Clarisonic. I've just recently started using mine again and it was amazing at removing my blackheads. They came back soon after, but it was really neat seeing my nose without the blackheads. I've had those for ten years, so I'm not surprised they came back so soon. Hopefully, continued use with the Clarisonic will help get rid of them for longer periods of time. |

What is Clarisonic? I may have seen it before (but I'm in Australia so we may ahve a different name for it).
I have some blackheads on my nose and usually see a beautician for it. But would love to get rid of it myself at home. does this Clarisonic help? |

Berquis, seems like you have a mystery on your hand and the best advice I have to you is to start thinking what changed abut 2-3 months ago. Did you start using a new product? Did you change your diet? Sounds like you are reacting negatively to something. It could be an allergic reaction.
Otherwise, it could be something brought about by hormonal changes.
But, be a detective and see if you can think of some change that coincides with the timing of this starting for you.
Best wishes! |

Clarisonic face brushwww.clarisonic.com It is a fabulous tool that uses sonic technology similar to the Sonicare toothbrush (in fact, it's made by the same manufacturer).
You can find out much more by doing a search on EDS. I don't know if they sell the brush in Australia as Clarisonic has been working on one an international charger that is supposed to come out sometime this YEAR. In the mean time, many people abroad have bought the Clarisonic and used an voltage converter with the U.S. charger with no problem. |

bergquis,
Have you been to a derm? The reason I am asking was that I started to get these red bumps with whiteheads all of a sudden. The derm diagnosed it as acne rosacea. So it may be worthwhile to seek professional opinion.
As for the white stringy things, those are sebum in the pores. They are just clogged pores. I asked my derm about those too and she said everyone have them.
The 10x magnifying mirror is the devil. You need to put it away ASAP! |

HA and BHA will make a HUGE difference. I get these on my decollete when I sweat or skip exfoliation a couple of days. It's just oil and toxins coming up through your skin -- and the top layer of dead skin traps them. You can scrape off that skin and the "pimple" disappears -- but if you exfoliate regularly there will be no "pimple" at all.
I get these on my chin very rarely -- since I exfoliate regularly. When I decide to use a creamy cleanser or anything that cannot counter my thick waxy sebum, I get these spots. They are easy to control and easy to get rid of. As long as bacteria does not rear its ugly head -- THEN you'd have real pimple!
Exfoliate and use a good BHA product -- it will exfoliate and clean INSIDE your pores. A new product in your regimen may be adding to the congestion. Take a second look at your creamy/oily products. |

dead skin, oil, and bacteria will make you have blackhead or acnes. So if you wanna avoid it, use face scrub more frequent so as to remove the dead cell |
