I would start with some birth control which helps get it under control at least. Then ask your Dr. for some Tazorac, Retin-A or something like that.

I've heard ppl need a combination of two topicals. So maybe choose some topical antibiotic?

Good luck!

I used to get cystic acne -- maybe 3-4 cysts per year. Since switching to OCM I rarely get them. When I do (pre-OCM and now) the best thing I've tried is Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. It relieves the pain and makes then go down faster than anything else I have used.

Topical treatment is important but I think a balanced diet or custom diet may help. I got some herb tea from a Chinese doctor to help my son's acne and I started to see results after two months.

Have you been to a dermatologist to see what is causing the cystic acne? I do recommend that.

In addition, a good facial cleansing method is important for prevention of acne breakouts - one that exfoliates as well as cleans.

Clarisonic skin brush is my top recommendation.www.clarisonic.com

If you can't afford it, then consider the Pretika knockoff sonic brush (available from HSN).

If you can't afford that, try a "microdermabrasion" cloth/sponge. I like Ebay Stan's sponge - get it from him or his wife - gets in the nooks and crannies of the nose area (where I tend to get clogged the most):

I used to take Akamin Tabs (oral) and Differin Gel (1%) Tropical... It worked really really well and I had no real side effects appart from some initial peeling until my skin got used to it (but this was very minimal).. This is all prescription medicine so you do need to go to a GP

Doyou know the side affects of Akamin Tabs (oral) and Differin Gel (1%) Tropical? I am afraid to use any oral medication and prefer natural remedies.

Look into the dermaroller for the scarring. Ones above .75mm are for skin remodeling (the shorter ones are to help topicals penetrate the skin). There are a number of threads here at EDS about dermarollers.

You can google akamin and get a list of possible side effects. However, I experienced none. Except that your skin is more prone to sunburn (but if you use sunscreen it's not a problem).
In relation to the differin the only side effect was very very minor peeling for about a week (until my skin got used to it).

But at the end of the day, you need to speak to your doctor about what's right for you. My doctor initially recommended birth control pills but I didn't want that because friends that were using them (for birth control) had gained weight. I know that's not the case with all birth control pills. Once again it's a matter of what works for you.

where do you get them?
I have them around my jaw and chin area and previously googled (egons ago and can't fish out those info now) it's related to either 1. hormones 2. Dairy products.

So I quit all dairy products including ice cream, pasta and bleu cheese! Crying or Very sad Those helped alot but occasionally before my menses I get a once on the chin area.

Natural method? tea tree oil.
Topicals - Retin A or even differin, but I prefer retin A, it is more effective.

Did you have the BBL laser? That is supposed to reduce acne drastically.
Since you prefer natural methods I won't even mention accutane. That is the only thing that worked for me.
Of all the topicals I have used..toothpaste seems to work the best for me when it comes to drying out the cystic ones. I put it on before bed. I also suggest PSF acne mud mask as a spot treatment.
These are tips for treating cysts..if you are looking to permanently rid yourself of the breakouts going internal is the only way.

Tazorac and finding the right BCP for me is the only thing that helped my cystic acne.

Whatever you do, do not try to pop your cystic pimples. It can cause so much damage. The best thing you can do is to go to a cosmetician or skin doctor that can recommend treatment options that are best for you. I heard that cystic acne is painful. Hope you get better!
