I got both a TCA peel and a derma roller (1.5mm) in the mail last week.

Being a little chicken, I tried them out on my hands. 15% peel on my left hand and dermaroller on my right. I've abused my hands a lot in the 49 years I've had them and they really show it. The skin is (was) prematurely thin, discoloured and quite wrinkley looking when I flex my fingers.

The results: My right hand, I kid you not, looks at least 10 years younger. The spots have faded, the skin is smoother and thicker. I just can't believe the difference. I can't wait to use it on my face (except I'm a little leary of the pain part...).

Left hand: Still too early early to see the final results of the peel, but the spots went very dark and some of them are still dark, almost scab-like. So it's going just as expected.

Do you experienced dermaroller users know if the improvement on my right hand is here to stay? It's just an amazing improvement, I can't believe it!

Rowmare, I was surprised at the results from my first roll as well. From all the research that I have read and the feedback from other people here on the board, it sounds like the results will only get better with time as the collagen is generated and matures over the next 12 months.

However, be sure to wear sunscreen on your hands now...if you have peeled at all, you will be more sensistive to the sun.

Follow up.

It's been exactly one week now. The skin on my derma roller'd hand is smooth, but not as plumped up as it was during the first few days following treatment. I guess it was a little swollen then.

My TCA peel hand is looking a lot better! The hyperpigmentation is reduced, although doesn't seem to be quite as reduced as the derma roller'd hand. The skin isn't any thicker, it may even be a little thinner.

My vote so far is definitely for the derma roller.

Also, is it true that acid peels make your skin thinner?? I read that somewhere - probably on a pro-dermaroller site. Bad Grin

P.S. I used the roller on my face yesterday. Ouch! A little red, but not so much that I can't cover with a little makeup and go out.

Do you just roll on cleansed skin, and no application of any topical on the skin prior to rolling?

That's what I did, just cleaned my skin and wiped on some alcohol.

Afterwards, I used Copper peptide serum once a day, moisturizers throughout the day(shea butter, emu oil and the like).

How do you clean your roller? Do you use soapy water, or do you just dip it in alcohol?

I'm cleaning the dermaroller with anti-bacterial polident. I found that tip here on the EDS forums. Very Happy

I have a question. Is dermarolling effective on stretch marks? My daughter has a lot of nasty looking stretchmarks from her pregnancies, and it really bothers her.

yes it is....do a search for posts by Zenity and Catski and you will see that they have both had good luck with that.

You do need a longer roller (1.5 or longer) to break up the scar tissue bundles.

This sounds good. I'm going to have to order the 1.5mm roller.

Thanks for posting, I just ordered a Dr Roller. It will be interesting to hear about your results in a few weeks!

I've been looking at derma roller before and afters all day today, as well as before and after TCA peels, and...also, before and after face surgery results. I have to say I am much more impressed with the peels and the roller. Sadly many surgical candidates most likely never considered either of these two!

xo

The longer rollers will cause bleeding. The L & R roller is for product penetration - I know it is a shorter length. The longer rollers are intended for use on scars - breaking up the tissue and for collagen production. There's a lot of good reading out there on the value of rollers and what the different needle lengths are intended for.

Can anyone tell me what the best dermaroller on the market is? and where I can get one. I was thinking about ordering one off the internet but after reading your posts about longer rolls making you bleed or making your skin really sore I am just a little bit freaked out. Should I just go and get one done professionally? Is that even possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Smile
