Hello!
I was just reading about the new Skinceuticals Phloretin product.
Based on another post, apparently oil soluble vit C is a better form...does anyone know if skinceuticals Vit C used in their products is this form?

Skinceuticals serums contain l-ascorbic acid, which is water-soluble.
I believe that Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and the new Phloretin serum are high quality serums. I am not convinced that the oil soluble serums necessarily are better. There are different studies showing diverse results.
According to this article from Smartskincare.com, there is some evidence that combining water- and oil-soluble forms of vitamin C makes the most effective serum. To date no commercial products seem to be an anhydrous vitamin C combo. The big majority of C serums contain the water-soluble l-ascorbic acid.

In the article below, it's stated that vitamin E and ferulic acid enhance the stability and effectiveness of topical ascorbic acid. Skinceuticals make use of this exact formula.

ETA: The information in the article from Smartskincare.com is wrong on one point. SkinMedica vitamin C Complex does contain both the water-soluble l-ascorbic-acid and the oil-soluble tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. This is my favorite vit C product, and highly recommended for those who can tolerate a silicon base. It also contains vit E.

| I know for me personally the Skinceutical C serums (10%, 15% and CE Ferulic) all cause clogged pores (they use l-ascorbic acid). I've had much better results with C products that do not use l-ascorbic acid. |

It looks like the Devita vitamin C serum combines oil and water soluble vitamin C, it does look interesting.

I just realized the ingredient list I posted yesterday on this product in a different thread is different! This product has different ingredient listings!  The difference between the devita website and internatural is minimal, but the listing on pure body solutions has a different first ingredient, which is a big deal. Maybe they just made a mistake...

Hi there! Thank you for all of your posts as it has certainly helped me make a decision. Reading the Futurederm's blog is what got me thinking I should add a Vit. C product into my regime for antioxidant purposes.
Due to hyperpigmentation, I am leery of trying an acid form of Vit C. (Skinceuticals I know know!) as in the past these have aggrivated it. I am going to go with a Vit. C product from 302 as they use a non-acid form. Keep you poseted! |
