As summer is coming, I want to wax my legs & arms cuz of course I don't wanna be hairy walking down the street hehe But I wanna save some $$$ for not going out to the salon to get the job done. So I would like to know if any of u ladies here tried any at home waxing kit that's effective?
I tried Veet before... those wax strips and it doesn't really remove anything at all. I'll say my hair is not that fine. They're quite dark and coarse sometimes so perhaps that's the reason why those strips don't work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! |

I also have the Veet wax strips, which are cold wax and you use your hands to "melt" it. They do the job on my arms, but are useless on legs.
For the legs and bikini zone I use only hot wax, it goes in "cartrige tubes" which you put into wax-heating device. The hot wax is strong enough to remove the hardest and coarsest hair. but painful of course |

I wonder if doing it at a salon might be better or the same? Anyone has any ideas what kinda wax they used in salons? Brands?
Aiva, that sounds painful... So which brand r u using for your legs and underarms? BTW, is hot wax better than cold? What's the difference anyways? I'm totally unexperienced when it comes to waxing. |

I`ve done salon waxing just once, after what the girl told me what to buy and I have bought the same equipment she used on me so I use it by myself at home now.
oh no, I never wax my underarms! I`m not able to, I would cry of pain I wax only forearms, legs and bikini.
hot wax is better in that way that it is "strong" - it can do the hardest hairs (bikini for ex.). Cold wax is able to do my forearms, much worse on legs and useless on bikini.
yes, waxing is painful, but the benefit of being hairless for some weeks is worth the pain for me. |

So Aiva, what do u do with your underarms then? I can imagine how painful it is to wax the underarms ouch ... I usually shave it but I found that it's not too clean and it came back the next day.
So which brand r u using now? Most likely I'll just get some drug store brands. It's interesting that the girl at the salon will tell u what equipments to get...now she lost a customer haha |

I also shave my underarms. Yes, it is not too clean and hair comes back just the next day, but I can do nothing else with them
waxing underarms is not for me, sorry!
however I`m able to do bikini...
that girl was my manicurist for a long time and we had a good relationship
so here is my hot-wax "system" :
the wax-heating device is called "Velvet Lady Color", producer - Biemme s.r.l., Italy
it is an electrical appliance, you put wax "cartrige tubes" into it, switch it on and leave up to appr.1 hour to warm up.
wax tubes are by BIEMME also
then you put tonic at first, mine is called "Depilis tonico pre&post depilazione", produced by Estebel, Italy.
then you need stripes, mine come in a roll 100 m, the oil for removing wax-residues and tonic after depilation, mine is called "Holiday dopodepilazione refreshing gel" and contains menthol, so your skin feels relieved and cooled down to diminish pain.
all these things are of italian production and I donnow if it will help. I buy them from a speciality shop that sells stuff to salons.
I would suggest just drop in some salon nearby and ask them where you can buy home waxing-kit.
that kind of stuff is not sold in drug stores. |

yes, it is a good idea to do it in a salon for the 1st time - you`ll be able to watch and to remember the procedure. And you want to pay attention how they put wax and how they strip it away - putting is always along hair-growth direction, stripping - against.
waxing underarms!!! OMG!
I`m getting nervous just thinking of it
well, I doubt that they will tell you where to get the equipment though you`ll be their customer.
may be you know a hairdresser/manicurist/someone working at a salon who has another "salon friends" who can tell where to buy such stuff or will sell it to you?
there are always old good epilators too.
however I get ingrown hairs often from epilators as well as waxing. |

Stardustdy, here is the link so you can at least see what I`m talking about:
http://www.biemmedepil.com/biemme_prod5_eng.php
these wax cartriges are simply easy to use and not messy.
I have no idea wether it is sold where you are, may be there are some other brands. |

Stardustdy - I have been using the Parissa brand of hot and cold wax for at least 5 years now and I have had lots of success on my bikini and legs. I have never tried the armpits because with the direction of hair growth I just figured it would be too difficult. I usually buy the cold wax strips for the body and use them on my legs and cut to size for bikini. I have also used the hot wax but it is pretty messy for clean up and the oil doesn't really remove it very well.
If you live in Canada and would like to go further to check out salon products, I noticed Chatters has salon wax warming pots, wax, and materials. I think they were pretty decent priced too. I believe the brand was Satin Smooth. |

that`s why I use hot wax in cartriges - it is not messy at all! - have a look at the link above.
and wax-removing oil does an excellent job! |

Moom is a great natural product (it's sugar based). I really like it. You can get it at London Drugs. |

Thanks everyone for all the great replies. I live in Vancouver Canada so perhaps I'll go to the drug store and check out those brands.
So nobody is waxing their underarms? |
