Hi all,
I have a horrendous case of back and shoulder acne that has ruined my skin. I used to have one or two spots as normal but this is a full on outbreak. It is so ugly and happened over the last month - been traveling alot to polluted countries and more stress than normal. I have spots all the way down to my waist. I made the mistake of putting Differin gel on it and now it is worse. As soon as I get rid of the red bumps, the dark marks are there (awful)and then a new batch appears. I have tried to wash my back with Phisoderm really scrub alot to keep my skin very clean, change sheets etc etc but it is not going away. Any of you tried anything in particular? Should I just try antibiotics? What about the marks? I can't even wear a bikini for summer as my back and waist area looks horrid.
Thanks |

Hi, my chest, upper back and shoulders are very very acne prone. What really works for me is Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum. It's gentle yet effective. |

Hi Blacklace~
There is an EDS thread here on Head and Shoulders or I think I searched back acne or something along those lines...However, some people on here were using H & S to combat bacne...Yes, I know quite unconventional, but I've been trying it for about 1/2 a wk now, and I've noticed that it is drying out the bacne...I know I read that some people saying it reduced their scars (dark spots), but I think it's too early for me to detect that...
I'm kind of at the stage where I want to get rid of these unslightly blemishes...And then hopefully in the process, the H&S will help reduce the dark pigmented areas...
It's a cheap solution, and I'll post once I have more concrete info to share with you regarding my success or failure w/ H&S...So far, I'm going to continue using it. Best of luck to you! And if you have any questions, please holler, I'll try my best to answer. Take care |

Hi,
Try the ZNP bar if the H&S classic clean works for you. I LOVE it!
I have battled this issue for years and for the first time in my life....I can wear tank tops and bathing suits.
I forgot it when I went to CA and it came back with a vengence. I couldn't wait to get home and start my routine again. Got everything back under control. Funny how I got so used to not having bad bacne that I didn't pack that little bar of soap. Boy, did my skin remind me quickly.
I can't use the H&S for very long as it drys my skin and makes me itch horribly...but it gets rid of acne!
The ZNP bar has the zinc, but doesn't dry me out. Its actually used for dandruff (like H&S), but I'll never be without it.
I get mine from my dermatologist, but I saw it sold online for about $8. Good luck! |

Making sure not to overdry the area will help a lot. Anytime you're creating fissures in your skin bacteria can get in and colonize, and it worsens the problem.
Nizoral, Selsun BLue, Head and Shoulders... I have heard wonderful things about all of these to combat bacne and arm pimples. If you find you're getting literally crops and patches of them I would go to a dermatologist to rule out a yeast colonization, truth be told, because bacterial acne often need a slightly different treatment than normal grime and grease pimples (sometimes oral antibiotics are prescribed).
Make sure you're not OVERcleaning the area and stripping it. Go with light manual exfoliation and moisturizer (I am partial to oils, Avocado would be a good bet as it is very moisturizing but not know to exacerbate acne) and LOTS of rest and water. Something you MAY want to try would be garlic, topically, in a spot to see if that helps clear it. In cases of infected, oily pores garlic is both very astringent and antibacterial, so it will help with this immensely (though it smells a bit odd).
Good luck getting rid of these, hopefully your skin is just going through a temporary purge/freakout and will be back to normal soon. If you have ruled out all other causes maybe making sure your hormones aren't out of whack would be useful? I noticed ALL my acne, not just facial, worsened with pregnancy and TOTM hormone dips. Anything that increases testosterone and progesterone or throws you out of balance can cause a rash of unexplained acne.
Sorry for the ramble, hope this helps some! |

Aqua Glycolic Body Cleanser! Go gently on acne areas. It is also great for those little bumps on upper arms or bikini line. |

I have been using H&S classic clean for 6 months now and no more bacne. I've also been using mama lotion a few times a week on my back an it is helping in making it really smooth.
But I still haven't been able to totally get rid of the acne brown/red marks left behind.
Does anyone have any suggestions for that?
The mama lotion doesn't seem to be fading them.
Thanks

i just started breaking out on the shoulders, upper back and even chest a few months ago for the first time. i'm pretty sure it's from my leave in conditioner. i dry with my hair up now, breakouts are fewer, but the healing of "spots" is slow going. |

Hey all,
Can't thank you all enough for your replies. So pleased with all your help and glad to know you had results. I will start with the HS - I do recall that suggestion. Again so many thanks to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You all are so awesome. |

If you want to try something else - eventhough it seems like the H&S is working for you - here are some things that worked for me a while back.
- after washing your hair - wrap your hair in a towel and then wash your body - apparently the conditioner can clog pores
-use 100% cotton sheets and sleep in fabric that allows your skin to breath (e.g. cotton)
-don't over moisterise with heavy creams - I thought that my problem was that my body was too dry so that is why my skin produced so much oil so I lathered on a whole bunch of body butters
-use body shop green tea body wash
-rinse off sunscreens and tanning oils asap when not in sun - these clog my pores
Good luck with whatever you try |
