Hi,
I just got an e-mail from JoElla that is raving about FANIE International skincare, especially the masks.
Does anyone use any products of this line?
Thanks. |

Believe it or not, I used Unveil, TruSkin & Fizzy last night around 6:00pm, my face still looks nice now. (11:00am) My face is brighter, and has a "healthy" glow. I don't want to "lighten" my skin color but even out my skin tone, get rid of my melasma, the most important is HAVE A HEALTHY GLOW. |

Hey MacCrisis,
Thanks so much for your review in the KH thread. I've been so curious about them since JoE seems to be really smitten with the product line. As I was reading your review I thought to myself, "uhoh, she's not supposed to be using that mask because of her glycolic use" but I see you figured it out. I can't wait to try these to incorporate into my KH use. Thank you so much! |

JoElla sure seems smitten, doesn't she? I haven't "known" her long enough to know if that is how she is with all of her new products or if these are just really wow-ing her.
I emailed her to see if she can add the ingredient lists for all of the Fanie products on her website. Some products have them listed and some don't and that drives me batty. I would NEVER buy a product unless there was full disclosure of ingredients.
JoElla responded to me that she will add the ingredient lists. She said that Fanie itself doesn't list the ingredients ( ) so she is getting the lists off of the packages themselves. I think these products might be alot like the KH ones in that their ingredients don't look all that impressive (from the ones that I have seen) but how they work together is key.
As a side note, I also asked JoElla if one has to use the Tru-skin to mix the masks; I know it says it adds benefits but to avoid yet another purchase, I was wondering if you could use water instead. She hasn't answered that for me yet as she was rushed and said she would email again later today. |

I asked her the same question yesterday and here's her response:
I have only used the Tru Skin, That is what is designed to go with it. If it were water, it should be distilled. The Tru Skin has great ingredients. The masque gets hard, so you want to be sure it is something that would not cause a problem.
This is from Fanie website http://www.fanie.com/Masques.cfm#m1:
All FANIÉ botanical masques come in powder form and for best results, should be activated with FANIÉ Tru-Skin. Bottled or distilled water can be used for masque activation if Tru-Skin is unavailable.
I spent quite abit on KH stuff (Pro-Cleanser, Oxygen FC, Essential Mask, Vit H and Kombi 2)... and is trying not to spend so much... TRYING REALLY REALLY HARD to resist...!! |

Hi Bren,
I found a few of the ingredients at another forum and was very disappointed. But like you said, the KH ingredients arn't anything to write home about so I'm game to try the Fanie. It looks like it would fit in well with the KH too which is something I've been wanting. Ohhhh. Can't wait.
Unfortunatly, it will be awhile before I buy. My 18 year old was hurt Wednesday evening at a pool and had surgery the same night. Boys!
Goofygal, let me help the lemming. Let your skin adjust to the KH first. You don't wanna throw too much new into the mix. |

Thanks GoofyGal. That helps alot. I don't like the idea of having to buy a second product in order to use the one I really want! I am guessing I could mix distilled water and some sea kelp bioferment (which I already own) together and that would make a great substitute for the Nu-skin stuff. |

I was looking at the ingredients for the Unveil and it looks like its main exfoliation ingredient is phenol! That is a really intense and serious peel ingredient, from what I have read. No wonder you are still glowing, MAC!! |

Bren,
Your plan of using distilled water and SKB was exactly what I plan to do should I get the Fanie masques!!! ...But I'll listen to Blues and wait out for a while longer.
Blues,
Sorry to hear about your son's operation. Hope it was a success and wish him a speedy recovery! Thanks for your help on my lemming! |

You know which ingredient actually irritates me? Cinnamon oil. Their advertisements for some of the products keep talking about 'feeling the heat', blah, blah, blah...well, you put cinnamon oil in anything and it is going to give you feeling of heat and tingling. It doesn't mean it is doing anything.
Anybody know anything about dong quai as a skincare ingredient? I was looking at the HotDot spot treatment description and this is what it says:
HotDot
Consists of a revolutionary blend of ingredients for topical skin problems such as zits, hidden pimples, blackheads, whiteheads.
The effortless way to a flawless complexion. HOTDOT softens, loosens and helps lift impurities from the skin without "squeezing" or steaming. Use at bedtime after thoroughly cleansing with FANIÉ herbal cleansers. 1/4 fl. oz.
Directions for use: Cleanse with White Oak Cleanser. After dip Q-Tip into the gel, spot lit over the head of the skin eruption and allow to penetrate. Will experience a pseudo heat sensation at the site of application, which will stop in a few minutes. Hot Dot should be wiped off the skin with a dry cloth or cotton ball at the completion of the heat sensation.
Ingredients: Petroleum, cinnamon oil, dong quai, chloroxenylenol
So, what makes this product work to "loosen and liften" debris? Clearly, the cinnamon oil is responsible for the "pseudo heat sensation". Petroleum is the carrier/base. The last ingredient (which I believe is spelled incorrectly) is a disinfectant. I couldn't find much at all on dong quai usage on skin. I am fascinated at what could make this effective (if indeed it is). Any ideas? |

I was doing the same search, lol. And coming up empty. What initially irritated me was the claim that this is a 'natural' line. Huh? |

Found the below:
dong quai. Latin name Angelica polymorpha sinensis, is an herb that has been shown in some studies to have estrogenic activity and a positive effect in mitigating menopausal and pre-menopausal symptoms, although several other studies disprove this (Sources: Archives of Gynecology and Obsterics, November 2007, pages 463–469; Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association, March–April 2000, pages 327–329; and Fertility and Sterility, December 1997, pages 981–986). There is also research showing that it can stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells (Source: Menopause, March–April 2002, pages 145–150) and research indicating it has antioxidant properties (Source: Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, May 2007, pages 3358–3362). There are no studies showing that dong quai has any effect topically on skin. |

A decoction of Dong Quai root has been shown to inhibit many bacteria: Gram negative bacteria such as Bacillus dysenteriae, B. typhi, B. comma, B. paratyphi and Escherichia coli as well as Gram positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Shigella.(15-17) Polysaccharides in Dong Quai have shown to be both stimulating and modulating.

Dong Quai is a very popular Chinese herb. It helps circulation. We often put it in soup w/other herbs. I don't know about putting it in skin care products.......
What were you grils trying to do????? You made me worry.......
Should I use Fanie masques or not? And how often should I use them?? I planned using Unveil 2 or 3 times a week as suggested. |

You know Mac, maybe this is just one of those cultural differences. You seem comfortable with the Dong Qui, understand it's use, and it sure sounds like you're happy with the results so why not use it. I definitely think Oriental medicine has some great things that the westerners don't understnad or use. Woman, you're using a 40 percent clycolic mask weekly, come on, live a little. What's a little phenol occasionally. |

Dong Quai is spelled in so many ways (e.g. danggui, dong quai, tang kwei, tang kuei and etc) and therefore have to google it differently.
I didn't google all yet but found one using "tang kwei skincare". |

You took the words right out of my mouth, Blues. Mac - if you use strong glycolics weekly and you didn't have trouble with the Fanie mask, then you might be a great candidate for it.
I researched phenol and found that it is considered to be the deepest of all types of peels (TCA peels are only considered moderate). I personally found TCA peels to be extremely strong and my whole face crusted over and then peeled. It took a week to go thru the process. Phenol would not be my friend, that's for sure. Now, of course, we are talking different concentrations of these ingredients, I'm sure. What concerns me is that the company doesn't list their ingredients for people to make informed choices based on what they know of their skin. Thank goodness that JoElla plans to.
As far as the Dong Quai, or rather the HotDot, that just fascinates me as to what makes it effective. Maybe the DQ increases circulation to the area and that somehow helps "loosen and lift out" debris? Somebody buy it and let us know if it works! |

I was excited to read JoElla's email (what a strong rave!) and ordered a few of the Fanie products too. The idea of getting additional results from a mask without having to change my current skincare routine sounded great. I went with the Enzyme Masque and Accent Masque although the ingredients are so similar I probably should have gotten just one. I also got the TruSkin mixing agent and the Liquid Sponge treatment for clogged pores. I'll let you ladies know how things go and I'm looking forward to hearing what you all think as well. |

You guys are cracking me and I sooo need some chuckles this morning.
Mama Walnut, you will be the true test for the hot dot. Can't wait to hear. I think I'll get the Tru and the Enzyme mask. Since I'm already letting the pesky anti oxidants run amok all over my face, what's a little more risk? |
