Hi. I found this great forum and thought it would be the perfect place to get great advice about my peel.
I did a 3 layer TCA peel. I am using the emu oil and CP serum.
I have heard that after the 3rd or 4th day it is a good idea to use an enzyme mask to help the peel along.
Does anyone have any post TCA peel suggestions?
Is there a good mask or cleanser I should use to help the peel along or is it just a waiting game?
Thanks. I would really appreciate the info. |

I forgot to mention in the previous post that I used a 12.5% solution for the TCA peel. |

You should not use anything that will help the skin peel. Its important for the skin to peel naturally, otherwise you risk getting some scars. I just use polysporin or vaseline. |

I have read in older forums that some people will apply a mask on day 3 or 4 after the TCA peel to help with the rejuvenation process. Does anyone have any experience regarding the type of mask that is best to use during toward the end of the peel?
I have also heard that steaming the face is effective.
Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

It is recommend not to use any treatments after the peel, usually for up to 2-3 weeks. Dont steam or use any kind of mask or treatments until you are done peeling. Stick with the emu & cp and dont forget sunscreen.
There is no need to rush the process, your skin need the time to heal. If you rush it you risk irritating your skin which you do not want to do at this point. If you skin peels off before its ready you will likely get some scarring. Just let your skin flake off naturally for best results. |

Thanks girliegirl. I appreciate your help.
I was really surprised how tight my face got, especially around my mouth. I knew it was going to tighten up; however, I could only open up my my mouth about 1/2 inch. It was hard to even drink water. My mouth and teeth were dry and gross. I could not even get the toothbrush in my mouth without fear of tearing the skin in the mouth area. I have read a lot about the peel, but noone ever mentioned these results.
Yesterday, a small crack near the corner of my mouth appeared and it hurt. The skin was so dry and I think the edge of the cracked skin was irritating the new skin underneath. I applied some neosporin to the area.
This morning after my shower, I was applying the emu and cp and my skin was really peeling. A lot of the skin peeled around my mouth and on the corners of my nose. I can open my mouth now and brush my teeth. Yeah!!!
The area in the corner of my mouth that cracked is a little red and I reapplied neosporin this morning.
Overall the new skin is very smooth and even-toned. It looks beautiful. As the skin peels off and is still on the face, I can see all the gross stuff it has pulled out of my pores. I am very interested to see if it reduced the fine lines on my face and also if it reduces the pore size.
The skin on my forehead, cheeks, and sides of my face are still really dry, but have not started to peel. This dry, crusted skin feels much thinner than the crusted skin on my chin felt. I thought this was interesting.
For all of you interested, I will post my day by day journal I have been keeping after I have finished the peel. I find it hard to follow peoples peel journals when they are spread throughout a forum discussion, so I thought I would place in one reply so people can follow it easier.
Also, if anyone has a suggestion about follow up treatment post peel in a few weeks I would appreciate it. I have heard some people start a regimen of lactic or glycolic peels for maintenance after about 4 weeks. Any suggestions for strength or what has worked best for you would be appreciated.
I have heard the diana yvonne fruit acid peel is great as well as the psf pumpkin peel is wonderful. Also, the PSC lactic and glycolic acid have received great reviews. If anyone has any personal experience, I would love to hear about it.
I am also interested to hear about any other products people are using post peel to keep faces soft and wrinkle free. I have a great face sunscreen, which I know is very crucial. Has anyone used the PSC Glycolic Serum?
By the way, I am 37 and am lucky to have nice skin. I am just starting to develop some very fine wrinkles, so I did the peel to give my skin a fresh start. I would like to begin a proactive routine so I can look good as I get older.
Thanks. |

Did you do this peel yourself or did you have it done professionally for you? It sounds awfully painful. Sorry about the pain. Glad it's turning out great though. |

I did the peel myself at home. Of course, I followed the directions and I am very, very happy with the results. I have had friends pay a lot of money at doctor's offices to apply this peel. I purchased it from a very reputable and professional online source - PSC - and could not be happier.
I was just really surprised how tight the peel turned out to be. It was not painful, just more uncomfortable than anything.
Today, my face is almost completely peeled and the beautiful fresh smooth skin is absolutely amazing. What a difference. I am very, very happy with the results.
Though it is interesting, the areas I applied more layers of TCA peeled first, and the areas I applied only one layer (aound the eyes) are still in the process of peeling. |

How much time off work do you need after using the skin peel? Also where did you get it? I am amazed that you can do this at home. I have seen the results of the professional ones on the makeover programs. Do you get similar results from the home ones? |

in my experience pumpkin peels (even 30%) are more like light peels. (correct me if i'm wrong). pumpkin is a natural enzyme. it will give you good results you just have to do them more frequently. i love peels. i do light peels on myself. i wouldn't do a tca without a doctor's supervision. that's just me personally. i think there's too much risk for scaring if it's anything above 10%. with any peel, after care is crucial and the most important things are keeping the area clean (gentle stuff please) and always wearing sunscreen. |

DO NOT USE 100% TCA! It must be diluted, hopefully your peel came with instructions on how to dilute. Peels of such high potency are not some thing to experiment with.
People usually start out with 8 to 12% TCA.
Are your scars red marks or indented scars? |

I totally agree...PLEASE do not use 100% tca yourself. The biggest risk is that whilst applying that strength is that will burn far too much and be very painful for you to do yourself! Most the time when people do a high concentration peel they get a shock when applying to the face and end up finding it difficult to continue therefore getting an uneven application. You can use quite a high stength tca peel without working up. But only if you feel very confident. Also you must be aware that the reaction you have is dependent on the thickness of your skin. I use 80% TCA peels once every 6 months. I am male, never sunburn, brown eyes and dark hair so my skin is quite strong- however i would never do a 100% on my face. The 80% is difficult enough as it is to put on myself! |

I find that using very dense oils helps the peeling process as it softens and gradually 'melts' the tough top layer of burned skin.
The emu oil is just brill as it is very rich and has out of this world anti-inflammatory properties.
I know that you have probably finished the peeling process so this info might be bit overdue but im bored at home as im currently waiting for my peel to heal! hahah!
However, DO NOT use anything other than non soap cleanser(milks are best) and your moisturising product for two weeks after the peel. Ohh and of course broad spectrum sunscreen. |

Thanks for your advice(GEMboy).I know some1 else who has perchused the same peel as me and she has had no problem with it,she advises me to use it but i just don't think i have the courage.I have got the instructions with this peel and it does say dilute which i was actually going to do but since i have never used a peel of this strength i'm rather nervous.I don't think it could do much harm as people wouldn't sell it would they? the person who i perchused this from does have good feedback of people who have said the products good etc.Apart from the burning process when actually applying it and the long days of waiting for it to peel is there anymore down sides to it? does it scar your skin once peeled? please help me abit more b4 i really go ahead and use this product. I wouldn't want to make my skin worse.Thankyou |

If this is truly 100% TCA it can damage your skin. You should start off with small concentrations to see how your skin will react. IMO its not worth the risk to start off with a high%. Also even application is very important. |

girliegirl is right. an even application is so important. but an even application is quite difficult when what you are wiping across your face is burning quite intensely! its kinda like waxing yourself. its difficult because its difficult to cause yourself pain.
sorry if im making it sound scary but i know what just the 80% feels like so i can imagine what the 100% would be like.
i would dilute it to a lower concentration if i were you. but always use purified water or saline. also if doing a patch test maybe on the neck would be best as if you do it on your face then it will be hard to avoid that area when doing the full peel.
when doing the full peel i would personally do it section by section. by that i mean do your forehead. wait for 3 minutes(thereabouts), then rinse with alot of fresh cool water. then do the next section. i find this is the easiest way and you will be able to miss the areas that you have already done as each section will stay frosted/or pink for quite some time.
other downsides depend on your skin and post treatment.
what is your skin like, farrukhs_angel? |

Hi thanks for your reply again GEMboy, its much appreciated. My skin is acne prone and can sometimes be oily but at the same time id say maybe abit sensitive.I dont really get many spots these days as im keeping them under control with vitmain pills but the reason why am wanting to use this is as when i had bad acne skin in the past it had left me with the odd marks which i cant seem to get rid of.If i do go ahead and use this peel then i am going to be very careful and follow the instructions properly and i am planning to dilute it.Another thing i forgot to mention,i have used this peel before but only on my hand to test it and i know it burns as ive experienced it then.Im willing to cope with that as id do anything to have great skin.Would you say the results of these peels are good and worth it? thanks again.Hope to hear from you.By the way you can call me pam x |

Thnks Pam...Im Ben.
The hand is pretty good place to try as it is quite similar skin to the face. The peels are great. You said that you got it from the same place as your friend and they were ok which is good because ALOT of the peels out there are either water or DANGEROUS. i have had great results with tca. i started by getting one for my acne scarring. my scars were more a general uneven texture on my cheeks. no discolorations. they pretty much totally went after the first peel. however, tca is only good for some kind of scarring. i would not recommend it for 'pitting' as the pit scar may actallly be wider, UNDER the skin than at the surface. therefore if using tca-which strips the surface- you would make the pitting more obvious by revealing the wider part of the scar. any other scarring and the tca is fine. tca isnt normaally the best for acne scarring (laser is the preferred) but it is still great.
the peel is brill for acne scars that appear as marks and also good if you have current breakout. pls pls pls tho, do no sqeeze pimples before or use any product that would open pores as this will cause the tca to penetrate too quickly and more deeply. after the peel you may get an outbreak of acne. this is response to the shock you have given your skin. just continue using antibac/antiseptic cream after the peel and not only will this help with any acne but also keep your skin clean while the new skin is getting ready for the world!!!
what odd marks do you have? |

Hi ben,in reply to your question the marks that i have arnt the worse ive seen but they r there and they arnt something i wanna live with for the rest of my life, they r more in my skin and not very big or noticable but they just wont go,i must say they have faded abit over time tho. They r like a light red kinda colour and quite smallish, about the size of a average spot id say.I dont just want to use this peel for them tho,i just want better skin tone as my skin looks abit dull aswell and i dont like the tone of it,id say thats caused by all the products ive used over the years.I actually bought this peel off ebay but it does have good feedback and i have done a lil research about it.When u say use some antiseptic cream would sudocrem be ok or is that abit drying? i am going to use a sunscreen also. Thanks |

yeah the tca will work really well for marks. in general the peel does work best on discoloration more than uneven texture although it noticeably does resurface the skin. the first peel i did i use sudocream but i found it quite difficult to apply because it is so thick. so i have used savlon for my last couple of tcas. worked much better and easier to apply. other than savlon i use REALLY basic sskin care for about 2 wks after the peel. i get a big tub of aqueous cream from the pharmacy and use it to cleanse the skin and as my moisturiser. a big tub hardly costs anything. and you need the big tub! coz you will be moisturising alll the time as the skin will feel very tight. the more you use the cream the easier and quicker the skin peels. i also get some vaseline/petroleum jelly as this creates a barrier. something that you may need is over the counter steroid cream but only if the skin is very itchy or if there is any discharge from the skin(quite rare).
so basicallly i just use 4 things. 1 aqueous cream to cleanse and moisturise 2 vaseline to use throughout the day, alternating with the mooisturiser, 3 savlon morning and night when the skin starts peeling, and 4 a really good sunscreen (higher factor doesnt mean better) - i use clinique as i think its the best for protection.
hope you find this info clear!!! |
