Hi Ladies, I'm new, and excited to have joined this website.
I have a question well i have serveral. I will just ask one for now.
Let me first start off by saying, that my skin is horrible. I have Keratosis Pillaris(sp) and I think it is getting worse. I had this ever since I was a kid, and it was just on the back of my arms. Now that I have just turned 30, it seems like it has spread everywhere LITERALLY. The back of my thighs, on my legs, my forearms, and even my bottom. Im so frustrated, I dont know what to do. Everytime I try something it works for a while, then its like my skin gets resistant. One thing that has change is now I have not taken a real bath since Feb of this year, I have only taken a shower. Im wondering if this has anything to do with it getting worse, because I have not had a chance to soak in the water. If your wondering why I have not taken a bath, the apartment that I moved into bathtub is really small, and I get so tired of having to scrub it out after my boyfriend takes a shower, that I just spray the tub out with clorox clean up, and then take a shower.
So do you ladies think that actually sitting in the tub with water, or just standing under the water in the shower could be causing this? |

I don't think that should be a problem, I have it on my arms, and recently have been using my salt bar soap and that really seems to be helping me. |

Welcome to the forum, nacole4eva.
I don't think it should make a difference on your skin whether you shower or soak in a tub. Dry brushing can improve keratosis pilaris. Perhaps that's part of your routine already? You should use a brush with natural bristles, brushing in circular movements and always towards your heart. It will improve circulation, remove dead skin cells and help your skin detoxify. |

I don't think there's any relationship between KP and shower or bath. I don't take a bath and always take a shower. I don't have KP. I used to have it about 10 years ago, but I started to use a very moisturizing lotion daily and it was gone. I think KP may have something to do with dry skin condition. |

Many people have KP, especially on the upper arms. What seems to work best is a combination approach--1) drybrushing, 2) manual exfoliation (either with microfiber, scrubby puffs, or scrubs with sugar or some other gritty substance) 3) use of an AHA lotion like Amlactin, and 4) moisturize daily.
Over time, a four pronged approach should get it under control. Just recognize that there is a genetic tendency to KP, so it will come back if you slack off and stop treating the area. Also, it takes a while for red marks from earlier bouts of KP to go away. Just hang in there and it will get better. |
