I am 30 years old and I just had my first mammogram. I didn't realize it was going to be so painful! |

Good Girl!!!! !!!!!!!!!
It takes bravery to do something scary for the first time!!!! I applaud you for taking your health seriously and being proactive. The first time is an unknown but progressively you know what to expect and don't fear it, I think.
Some technicians are gentler than others too. If one was too rough you think, you are within your rights to request a different technician. Just be tactful!
If you are still sore today, take some tylenol and apply cool/warm packs to the area, whatever is more comfortable for you. Massage and gentle stretching exercises help too. We get tense and perhaps the tissues get a little bruised the first time, but it should go away soon.
Sometimes it helps if you do deep breathing or listen to some soothing sounds on your iPod while having the mammo. Or, now that you've done it, please share what helped you! Many ppl are nervous about it I think.
Now that you've done it, please encourage your family and friends to do the same!! Nag them if necessary! |

Good for you for getting it done. I had my first baseline done last year. I was nervous but the tech very nice and made me feel comfortable. I didn't find very painful, more uncomfortable I'd say. I think the skill of the tech can make a difference.
Is it close to your period? I've read it can be painful around that time. |

| My doctor told me to do it right after my period is over. Girlies are less sensitive. |

FWIW, I've had 2 done (neither on my period) and didn't find it painful. Maybe slightly uncomfortable at the most. Then again, after childbirth (3X), maybe my pain tolerance is extra high!!!
Just wanted to give another perspective so as not to scare women off of getting one. |

Oh yeah, definitely get it done if you can. It took a day for the pain to go away but you know... i just started my period and the tech was man handling my girls.
I had to have it done early because I found a lump that we wanted to be sure it was nothing. I learned to never get it done during my period and to get it checked regularly because you never know. better be safe than sorry. |
