I just accidently lost the last year's entries in my clientele datebase and personal addressbook on my computer. And my backup discs haven't been updated in way too long. I can't believe I did it...I could scream...come to think of it, I DID scream. This ditziness (that I totally blame on hormones, aging, etc.) has gone too far this time. I tried taking ginko biloba and broke out in a rash from head to toe. I am so upset. Just had to vent. And don't forget everyone, backup and backup often |

| Ouch!! That's not good. Did you accidentally delete the files or were they open in the application and you deleted the entries in there? If you deleted the files then you might still get them back. Nothing on the computer is ever trully deleted. If you take your machine to a data recovery centre they should be able to get it back for you. I hope it's fixable... |

What I did was this: while backing up one database (I have 4 on the same program), I inadvertently replaced the wrong database. At first I wrote that I did the same on my discs but I didn't, I just had year old information (at least I had that) which I restored to the program on my computer. I lost another database altogether...I am really not happy. But I will keep looking in the computer for the lost data and then take it somewhere to see if it can be retrieved. Thanks, Mabsy, for the suggestion. Not a good way to end the work week. |

| Ah, that's tough. You could see if the program keeps automatic backup files as well. A lot of MS Office applications do that if they have been set up that way in the first place. You might find some *.bak files around that you didn't know you had. |

Thanks for the suggestion Mabsy, I'll check that out. Unfortunately it was in a program called Sidekick, not an MS program. |

Oh no, I hope you sorted it out...
This reminded me of a story!!
About 8 years ago (I was a travel agent) Dennis and I went to Spain. We got a deal through the travel industry. Anyway these apartments were ok, but the people who ran them were awful....On the last day, we explained that we would have to leave at 6am the next morning, so could he have our room checked that night and have our 100 deposit back. We were told no, they'd send it back to England. As they only checked rooms from 8am in the morning you were leaving.
MMMMMMM warning bells rang....so I said that wasnt acceptable. Only to be told that we could through the night trash the room or pinch the towels etc!!!!!!! At this point Dennis was like this and I was like this (as he does have a temper!) a slight argument followed!
Anyway after an hour of arguing, and the apartment staff saying they were going to call the police!, they eventually agreed to meet us at 6am in the morning to check our room.
Dennis was sure they wouldnt be up, and as he thought, nobody showed...we waited and waited in the reception.
Now this was a very old fashioned place, so Dennis being a computer whizz, whipped the disc outta the computer, wiped everything clean on the pc and buried the disc the front gardens!..
5 Mins later when we were just getting in a taxi at 6.20am they arrived!!!!!!!....we got our deposit back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... |
