Well, I'm not so sure where to post this message...
If I couldn't get any make-up samples (esp complexion products like foundation or concealer) to try at home, I never dare to try opened testers from shops directly on my face (am I close to having cleanliness disorder )
I will simply try it on the back of my hands but it never really give the same result as it's on the face
Due to this, I end up buying "wrong" products many a time...
What do you normally do in this case? |

I just found this mineral makeup and am waiting to receive my samples...you can order samples (in several different colors) and only pay the shipping. Since it is also a mineral make-up, I can't wait to try it out!! I will let you know how they are when I receive it....

zhuzhunette, there are many stores that have liberal return (or exchange) policies. This is better customer service so I value this option even if I don't end up taking stuff back. These stores often give small samples to help minimize returns in the first place.
Also, the most sanitary foundation containers are pump bottles, which are easily sanitized with an alcohol prep wipe (I'm a bit of a germ phobe too!). And finally, I think foundations / concealers often have a high return (or test) rate, since really the only way you know it's right is if you see how it is on your face in sunlight, and how it wears.
Cosmetic companies factor this into their "average revenue per user," so don't be afraid to exchange if it really doesn't work for you! |

Most of the company have now samples or small containers to make some. I know for sure that Clinique and Estee Lauder do offer the service. And like Margot said most of the time they have pump now. |

Margot's right about returning an item that isn't working for you. But I live far away from any major shopping area, so I know it's a hassle to have to return and repurchase endlessly, so I bring along empty little jars (in case samples aren't available) for the SA to put a tiny amount into.
Sephora does this without any hassle at all, and in fact they have little jars of their own for this. That way if I do buy a product that doesn't work for me, I can return the unopened full sized product after trying the sample. Put this way, most SA will not refuse!
In search of the Holy Grail, always.... |

I will test on the inside of my wrist, its closer in color to my face then the back of my hand. I also try to purchase those type of product at a place that will take returns.
But since I've been using mineral make up for years now so many of the companies offer samples at reasonable prices so its easy that way. |
