Are the collagen boosting effects of matrixyl3000 temporary or permanent? I've heard mixed messages about this. I read somewhere here that it temporary, while others have said that it is permanent...*confused* |

According to the blog truthinaging.com, there are clinical trials showing these results from the use of matrixyl 3000:
33 % decrease in wrinkle density
23 % decrease in the volume of wrinkles
20 % decrease in the depth of wrinkles
The only problem is that this research was conducted by Sederma, the manufacturer of matrixyl 3000. Marta from truthinaging.com told that she has not found any independent research on matrixyl. I guess that leaves it up to the consumers to test this stuff for themselves to find out whether and how it works.
Here is Marta's blog with five recommendations of products that contain matrixyl 3000.

Another good Matrixyl 3000 product is Cellularskin-rx Super Max Peptide serum, which is available here on EDS for 56 dollars US--a steal in comparison to some of the products containing this ingredient. Also, I should mention it has no parabens, for those people who like to avoid them.
I've been using it for over a year and think it is effective (though I also use Vitamin C and retinoids, so I have a hard time figuring out sometimes what is helping and what is not.) |

Ok. Well try this.
palmitoyl pentapeptide 3. Trade name Matrixyl, a fatty acid mixed with amino acids. The only research showing this has any significance for skin was carried out by the ingredient manufacturer, Sederma. In their research, three different “half-face” studies with a total of about 45 participants showed it to be better than a retinol or vitamin C product (Source: Journal of Cosmetic Science, January–February 2001, pages 77–7. Without independent substantiation, however, there is no way to know how accurate this company-funded research is. Further, according to Sederma’s research, the recommended concentration for this ingredient is 3% to 5% and there are few, if any, lines that include more than just a trace amount in their products. See amino acid and fatty acid. |

Matrixyl (the original) is no longer produced by Sederma, because L'Oreal swooped in and patented it (or some other big company).
So Sederma created Matrixyl 3000 and patented it. |

It does in fact contain parabens. It lists phenonip which is a formulation of: Phenoxyethanol (and) Methylparaben (and) Ethylparaben (and) Butylparaben (and) Propylparaben (and) Isobutylparaben |

I don't find that surprising since parabens are utilized as preservatives in about 90 per cent of all skin care and cosmetic products on the market.
According to the blog Futurederm, there are no scientific findings suggesting that parabens will cause cancer. However, some people are concerned about the potentially undisclosed risks of parabens and opt for organic skincare and other paraben-free alternatives. |
