I can't decide between Obagi Clear with Hydroquinone (will not use the whole system), or the PSF PhytoNutriv Lightening Serum, or whatever other product sold by EDS that you recommend. I am leaning toward Obagi Clear but sort of scared by what I read about Hydroquinone.

I plan to use the product 2x per week to start, maybe going to every other night eventually. I will not use it every night, and I wear SPF50+ sunscreen on my face (broad spectrum coverage).

If you're nervous about hydroquinone, why not give the non-hydroquinone PSF product a try first? Then, if it doesn't work for you, you can always switch to Obagi later.

I agree with flitcraft. Also, I am not sure if you will get any results using only the Clear and only 2 times a week.

Neova Manganese Skin Brightening Serum has been getting some mention as a clinically proven alternative to hydroquinone:

Doesn't look like the Neova product is available for purchase yet, but thanks for mentioning it.

It is Smile just not from the link I originally posted. Try any e-store (i.e. skinstore) that carries Neova.
