I have a good quantity of aloe vera gel. Recently I have been researching diy skin care. Could any or all of the below be combined with aloe vera? If so, what would be the appropriate amount?

DMAE
CoQ10
ALA
Lycopene
Niacinamide

Can you use pulverized multi-vitamins as an active?

Can any of the above ingredients be added to sunscreen? Progesterone cream?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Don't know about the other actives, but according to the "recipe" at thepersonalformulator.com, you add 3.4 grams or 1-1/4 teaspoons of DMAE to 4 oz. of cream base to make 3% DMAE cream.
I don't see why you couldn't use aloe vera instead of cream base. In fact, I'm about to try making my own version of "two-timing tightener", using DMAE and pepha-tight in aloe vera. Though my first batch will certainly be no more than 1/2 ounce (with about 1/8 teaspoon of DMAE) since a) it's an experiment and b) I won't be adding any preservatives.
I'll report back.

Thanks

If you're interested in using aloe vera, buy an aloe vera plant. Seriously, mine is growing new spines faster than I can cut and use them. (The spines are rubbery tubes filled with gel. A new aloe vera "tube" seems to grow almost every week.)

Aloe veras require very little care or water; they're hardy and look kinda nice too.

You'll save a LOT of money if you grow your own. You'll never have to buy aloe vera gel again, and the aloe you do have is 100% pure, fresh and organic. Yum!

Hi Lucy - As I have done this myself, I think
all of the actives other than DMAE will owrk with aloe vera gel. I've read in many places that DMAE will liquefy the gel. Good luck -

i would make sure the aloe vera gel is more runny, as i would think the actives might become suspended in the gel and not be absorbed into the skin. i would ask the mods over at the Garden of Wisdom forum.

As far as I know, ALA and CoQ10 are oil soluble, so I would dissolve those first in oils, then in the oil base could be added to the aloe vera gel, although you might need an emulsifier to have a perfect emulsion, or otherwise it is possible that the water base would separate from the oil phase.

Niacin and DMAE work fine in water base, like aloe vera gel, but DMAE might make the aloe vera gel runny. I have not worked with Lycopene and I do not have info about that. Sorry.

pulverized multivitamins would probably be useless, a lot of the stuff in them needs to be metabolized to do you any good.

pure c, e, or others might be worth a shot though, depending on what form they're in.
