Hi I have started using Obagi Clear (4% hydroquinone) for the last 2 days to fade some post acne brown marks. However after applying I get slightly red in the areas and it makes my marks seem a little worse. I wanted to know is this redness normal or will it worsen the marks.
Also I am yet to really see any fading to indicate it is working but then its only been a few days. If anyone has used hydroquinone or obagi clear alone please let me know if the redness is normal or can it worsen my condition. I am light brown in skin colour. Also how long until I see results?? |

Obagi Clear contains 4% HQ and lactic acid. From my experience, HQ doesn't do much to fade acne scars, but acid products do. Are you also using the Obagi Exoderm and retinoid products? Both of these will also help fade acne scars. The Obagi system can be very irritating. It is like boot camp for skin, but it did transform my complexion. |

sid, it is way too soon for you to see any fading. You will need at least 6 weeks for fading. The HQ can cause redness in some people. |

thanks guys for the replies but the other thing I wanted to now is whether this redness is to be alarmed or worried about as I am asian skinned (light to medium brown), can it worsen the hyperpigmentation or can I expect good results in a few weeks? Anyone else experience redness only with using hydroquinone? |

I would not be alarmed by a small amount of redness. If you are bright tomato red, then I would stop the Clear, as I don't believe you should be that red just from the Clear. The redness will not worsen your hyperpigmentation. Make sure you are wearing a good sunscreen every single day. Give the Clear at least 6 weeks up to 3 months to do help the hyperpigmentation. |

Thanks rileygirl, I noticed I didnt apply the clear today and the redness has subsided alot already. I am thinking I should maybe use it once every other day. I am not birhgt tomatoe red but I do certainly get red in the applied areas (not immedately but after a few hours of application) which makes the pigmentation appear worse. Hopefully in 2 weeks if I see some fading atleast I will know its working. |

Redness on your face means that the product is working.. You will experience some "scaling" too. Are you using Expoderm too? You must. The best way to get best result is to use the complete kit. Takes approx. 6-8 weeks, but you won't regret it, trust me on this one
I am a user of Obagi for over 5 years, and I think my skin has never been better. I think the older we get, the harder it is to keep the same "young" skin we have...

Hi Jade, I am young only 21. The thing is I only have a few brown marks (about 4)on the sides of my cheeks. And thats all. I dont want to have to treat my whole skin, besides I am asian so worry about hydroquinone and negative effects. I have only purchased the clear. May I ask why the expoderm is important?
Will I not see results with clear alone? Also is it normal on obagi for pigmentation to become darker at first before it lightens? |
