Is it OK to use LEDs and a Dermaroller at the same time?

Hi ladies!
I have read conflicting reports on whether it's OK to roll at the same time you're using LEDs. I just ordered 2 units from theledman.net and am considering purchasing a Dermaroller after reading such great reviews about its ability to stimulate collagen and allow product penetration.
Since the Dermaroller breaks down collagen and LEDs are supposed to stimulate collagen synthesis -- can anyone clarify for me whether these would work synergistic (together) or antagonistic (against each other)? If they're OK to use together, which one first?
Thanks to all who respond! Very Happy

Lil, I'm not really sure that the dermaroller "breaks down collagen"...did you read that somewhere? I would love to see that if you did.

The only conflict I am aware of in regards to LEDs and dermarolling is in regards to inflammation.

If you read the articles about how the process actually works (see link below), they state that you need to let the inflammation-driven wound healing cascade work it's magic in order to generate collagen (as much as 5-7 days). LEDs decrease inflammation, so therein lies the debate.

http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=29860&highlight=cit

I personally do not use anything that decreases inflammation for 24 hours after a roll, including LEDs, emu oil, hydrocortisone, etc. I will use emu oil at 24 hours if I need it, and in cases of extreme irritation I will break out the LED or hydrocortisone (LAST ditch there because it suppresses collagen rebuilding) after several days.

But other people do use them right before or after a roll. Keliu uses hers after, and Toby uses her before a roll.

There is no right or wrong...you just need to determine what is right for you.

Yes, I've continued to use my LED during my rolling stints - usually the following day after a roll. Bethany is right in saying there is no right or wrong procedure - I don't think enough studies have been done using both devices to come up with any protocol that's set in concrete. The same applies on the question of whether to use the LED on bare skin or whether to apply serums first. Different manufacturers recommend different methods, but again, I don't think anyone has really studied this question in any detailed manner.

My gut feeling is that skin will heal and regenerate regardless of whether an LED is used - and if the LED stimulates collagen it could mean that it's a double whammy.

Thanks girls! I guess I was confused in thinking that the roller breaks down collagen. I thought the whole idea was to gently break down collagen so that the body will be signaled to re-build it stronger.. the cumulative effects of continued rolling are obviously more collagen and stronger collagen (which is great!).
I'm going to start with the red/infrared LEDs first to see how my face responds and then add in some amber for the slight hyperpigmentation on my upper lip (due to pregnancy hormones last year).
Eventually I'll likely start rolling, just not sure if I'll do them at the same time as the LEDs. Thanks again Very Happy

It seems that some people find it really helps to use their LEDs with their rollers and highly recommend it.

Have you tried your LED yet? What do you think?

I bought the Baby Quasar a few weeks ago and I have so many good things to say about it. It has definitely made a positive impact on my skin and it has the added bonus of relaxing the knots in my shoulders! Seriously, when I put it on the Continuous Wave mode for 8 minutes on a shoulder knot, my shoulder muscles melt into Jell-O afterwards and it is SO relaxing!
The effects on my skin will be cumulative but right now I notice smoother texture, more even tone, and smaller pores. I'm happy with the purchase and, like other forum members, highly recommend the BQ device! Surprised
