One of the great things about this forum is that I have learned a lot about skincare products and devices. And, to the detriment of my wallet, I've indulged in a number of them. The trouble is, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out whether a new addition is having a positive effect or whether it's wishful thinking on my part.

When I wasn't using anything at all and added Vitamin C serum, the results were obvious. Same thing when I added a retinoid some months later. But, as my skin has gotten better, and I have added additional items (peptides, AHA, niacinamide, LED, soon to be added DNA repair) I'm less and less sure about what is working and what might not be. This isn't a real issue when it comes to devices that represent sunk costs--the only issue is whether to continue to invest the time to use them--but it is a big issue for me with products that are really costly.

I suppose the best thing would be if there were good double-blind studies on products, but so far that kind of research is only available for a handful of products. So...how do you all decide what is working for you and what isn't...

Do you add things in 1 at a time and give that particular product time to work (6-8 weeks) before you add anything else in? That could be one way you would be able to tell if it was doing anything. Or, you may drop 1 product at a time and see if it makes a difference in how your skin looks.

I know that makes sense, rileygirl, but I get so impatient. When somebody here talks about something giving them fabulous results, I can't wait to try it myself. (OK, unless its the Dermaroller--still too chicken for that one.)

flitcraft, I don't do that myself! I also get impatient. I guess if all of the things you are using are working and making your skin look good, then just keep doing it! Sorry, not much help! Laughing

I know exactly what you mean!! You could do the half face test, like I am doing with eye creams at the moment, but it is definitely a hassle.

Ooh, Bethany, I didn't realize you were doing a half-face test with eye creams. Which ones are you trying? Inquiring minds need to know...

I am testing ZO Eye Cream and Relastin.

Unfortunately, it is a slow test since rolling interferes...I can't use either for at least 3-4 days after I roll. I was going to do 4-6 weeks, but I may bump that to 6-8 weeks. I think anything shorter than that probably won't depict true results, and that might actually not even be long enough. But I'll keep you posted. Smile
