Hello EDS, I'm new here, you may call me Evritt :]

I'm 20 years old with decently good skin. I've never really tanned and when I had acne I saw a dermatologist asap. However there are a few minor things I want to take care of so I though I should ask around:

- I have some small bumps on my legs from improper shaving. What would be the best way to repair this?

- I have a few small scars from my acne days, what do you recommend in regards to repairing them?

Secondly, I`d like critique on my skin care regime:

- I use plain bar soap, aloe gel when my skin is a little too dry and sunscreen before I go out. I use a salicylic acid wash once a week, and an application of benzyl peroxide once a week as well (over night).

Should I be using toner? also is moisturizing important? I`v been told it is bad for skin because it stops it from breathing?

Welcome, Evritt. wave

I think the best way to treat the bumps on your legs is regular dry brushing with a brush with natural bristles and topical application of Tend Skin after shaving to disinfect and prevent new bumps from forming.

Applications of vitamin C serum and Retin-A have the ability to stimulate collagen growth, so that your scars might fill in a bit. I assume the scars are indented. Professional microdermabrasion might also be helpful.

I would skip the bar soap because it can dry out your skin and replace it with a facial cleanser. Personally I prefer a glycolic acid cleanser like the one from MD Formulations or a cleansing cream. Dermalogica has a good one.

Toner is unnecessary in my opinion. I think a vast majority of dermatologists would recommend to use a moisturizer. You would want to use a light moisturizer that is non-comedogenic. HTH.

Aloe isn't really a moisturizer--it may soothe injured skin, like after a sunburn, but it isn't emollient. In my limited experience, it may actually be drying.

Never ever use a bar soap! It dehydrates your skin seriously! Try decleor or dermalogica. Their products are natural and good for all skin types. If you don't like to apply any moisturizer because of the stickiness, maybe try serum, or essence.

I think the bumps from shaving are largely due to in-grown hairs. Usually I would exfoliate using a gentle skin-scrub and after a while, the bumps won't be there anymore.

And yes, like the others have said, bar soaps are quite drying to the skin. However I would advice you to get samples before trying Decleor as the essential oils in them may react with skin (like it happened to me sigh).

Perhaps a more neutral natural/organic based cleanser (without EOs or chemicals/acids) would be better to start off with since your skin is young and without serious problems Smile
