I'm soon turning 19, and as I see many here got a few years on me.
How can I keep a youthful skin throughout my life?
I know NO cigarettes, No sun exposure and genes are the basics.
I got the first 2 covered, and the last, well, your dealt the cards your dealt, so it's up to you to play them right.
beyond this, what is the best ways (products) to use that is proven by scientific research to prevent aging?
I see atleast 10 000 products claiming to do exactly the same, which makes my skeptic radar go skyhigh.
Ofcourse 90% of all skin products are basically, worthless and some even make the skin worse, we all know this, however, how do one know?
It's easy for companies to fake or tamper with results of scientific studies and then publish them online to get a "appeal to authority" on their products.
So as a complete newbie in the field, what do you experts recommend for a teenager who wants to stay young forever ? =P
I must say I love this forum, however I think it's sad it lacks any "before/after" pictures of products.
I never trust website picture's as 99% of them are altered in some way. |

I would say, Perfectionist that you have the right ideas on skin care. My feelings over skin care are the same. My opinion is, there is NO ONE good skin care ingredient. Try to a find a cream or serum with as many of the antioxidants as you can and you will pretty much cover all the bases. Add a sunscreen for day and thats about it to keep skin nice.
I choose only to use an spf 15 sunscreen daily and in the evening I use either Elizabeth Grant pm serum or if I have any break outs I use Paulas Choice 2% beta hydroxy acid which totally keeps my skin smooth. I use no specialty items such as neck or eye creams and much rather would use my day and night items for those areas.
I wish you luck in your quest to find the best skin care routine. Hope you let us know what your finally decide on. |

I would recommend the same 2 things I did in your other thread(s)...Retin-A and Vit C. Those two are consistently proven to regenerate skin.
You will find tons of information here on EDS (use the search function at the top of the screen), and well as clinical studies on PubMed, and various other places on the internet. Just use Google and you will be blown away by the large amount of clinical validation on these 2 actives. |

Welcome to the forum, where you will find lots of good advice. Here's mine: You are right to be skeptical about information that comes from someone trying to sell you something, and that unfortunately includes pictures. Before and after pictures can be misleading--how you hold your face, your expression, lighting, etc. can give the illusion of change that would not be visible in the real world. (And I am not talking about *intentional* manipulation of pictures, just the fact that you can't hold everything constant when you take pictures months apart.) That, plus the fact that we are real people here with real lives, means that not too many of us are inclined to post our pictures here. And honestly, for the reasons I've just outlined, it wouldn't help that much if we did.
But our experiences--good, bad, and in between--can be quite helpful. Keep in mind that we may sometimes gush a bit too much about products that we like, but the overwhelming majority of folks here are sincerely trying to be helpful and give an unbiased look at the products we try.
You've been given good and consistent advice by some very thoughtful and reliable posters here. Good luck with developing a good skincare regimen and remember that you are in it for the long haul--don't expect overnight changes! |
