The Switzerland-based company Mibelle Biochemistry has developed a new anti-aging ingredient, PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica, which is based on a rare form of apple stem cells.
This new ingredient is supposed to protect skin stem cells and slow the senescense of hair follicles. Tests that are conducted by Mibelle Biochemistry have suggested that the ingredient PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica boosts production of human stem cells, protects the cell from stress and decreases wrinkles.
Here is an article about the apple stem cell ingredient from cosmeticsdesign.com
http://www.cosmeticsdesign.com/Formulation-Science/Apple-stem-cells-appear-in-new-anti-ageing-ingredient
I am not sure how independent/biased the studies on this new apple stem cell ingredient are, but Mibelle Biochemistry has apparently won a prize
There seems to be one product on the market that contains PhytoCellTec, Emerge Swiss Apple Stem Cell Serum, http://www.stemcellskincare.com/ . Also, Life Extension has recently launched their own serum with Malus Domestica extract, called Skin Stem Cell Serum. Here is an insightful article about apple stem cells and anti-aging in Life Extension Magazine:
http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2008/nov2008_Apple-Stem-Cells-Offer-Hope-for-Aging-Damaged-Skin_01.htm
I think this new skin care ingredient sounds promising and hope to hear from people who have tried any of the new serums. So far I have not been able to find any reliable reviews online. Any views? |

I'm a little confused about the percentage of PhytoCellTec that's in the products. StemCellin has 5%, the Emerge one from Organic Skin Care has 20% and the GOW one doesn't list its percentage. So is it worth paying the big bucks for the 20% serum? |

That's a good point. Perhaps GOW will tell us. |

It's hard to guage. I made up a batch of cream with SKB and apple stem cells. I liked the effect on my skin. |

The research does not seem to be double blind or unbiased. They do not explain how they measured the depth of crow's feet, etc. Visual inspection can be highly subjective.
Also: while this may work in vitro does the molecule penetrate the dermis. Our skin is not at all like a petri dish.. |

At less than $10 a pop I'm not too concerned with that. |

Lotioncrafter also sells the extract itself, which I assume you'd include in your own DIY serums at whatever concentration you desire. It's $14.25 for 0.25 oz. There appears to be some filler in it as well, though, and it's not clear (to me, at least) what the percentage of extract is. |

I just started using the product from Garden of Wisdom, Phyto Stem Cell, a few days ago. It absorbs so quickly you have to work fast, the serum is very much watery, which I like since it doesn't feel like I'm piling products on my skin. |

I'm using the Serious Skin Care Plant Stem Cell Serum and Cream. They really make my skin smooth. They feel and smell wonderful also. I've only been using them for two months so far.
Isomers also has a Stem Cell Serum called Stem Genesis. I tried it but didn't care for the watery feel of the serum. |

Well, IMHO $10 or $100- if it isn't going to work, why bother? |

In the September issue of Allure magazine they talk about it and say it does look good BUT more studies need to be conducted. |
