I tried Skinceutical's 0.5% retinol for the first time, and everything looked fine when I looked at my face in the morning. However, when I applied my moisturizer (Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle), I felt a burning sensation near my eye (on the cheek bone). Now I have a red patch in that spot that's been there all day.
Is this normal? I know using retinol products can cause sensitivities initially, but is it normal for it to leave red marks? As calm as I normally am, I admit I'm freaking out a bit. :S |

You're already using retinol in your Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle moisturizer, so you may have overloaded yourself too quickly.
Normally you would have a reaction on a larger area of your face, but perhaps that is an area that you over exfoliated when washing, and it reacted a little more strongly. |

Thanks for the responses. I've stopped using all retinol products for the timebeing. I guess I assumed the Neutrogena would only have a tiny bit of retinol in it for some reason, so it wouldn't matter.
Is this something that's going to be on my face for a while? Should I apply anything to help like a cortisone, or just leave it be? I'm going to just use a plain sunscreen in the morning until it goes away. |

The Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle products are pretty good...I used them in the past and they could pack a punch.
Cortisone will probably help it heal more quickly. |
