I have a red patch from Obagi Nu Derm use. It's been on my cheek for over 3 days, just under the eye area. I have normally concentrated more Retin A in this area. I am assuming it is from irritation. I'm starting to get worried. Ive been putting zinc oxide on it but it is still not gone. Action seems useless. Should I put the Tolereen hydrocortisone 0.5%? Is that for redness? I'm starting to get worried if this is ever going to go away |

I would try hydrocortisone for no more then 3 days, if it does not improve I'd see the dr. |

I have experienced red patches on my neck from putting the Retin A on it and it basically looks and feels raw. I simply avoided putting anything on it for a few days. I don't have the action or tolereen lotion, I didn't put anything on it and it eventually got better. I think you might have put too much Retin A or your skin is just sensitive to it right now. Try putting it on only once a week and then progress or try every other day, two days or whatever works for you. If it's something I learned when I first started the regimen was that I found it less irritating to ease into the Retin A and blender if I didnt use the Retin A one day I would just use the blender. I found it's about what works for you and your skin. Right now I have been putting the blender and Retin A on for the last four nights and I noticed that my skin isn't as sensitive to it as it was before. Give it time. |

amonavis, is it just red, or is it raw, as well? Have you recently added anything new into the Nu Derm?
I'd try the hydrocortisone for a few days, like girliegirl said, and if it is not improved, go see the doc. |

It is definately not raw. Just red. Not bright red, but just subtle red discoloration that is localized in one area. Also a bit more dry than surrounding areas. Usually I heal fast so I expected it to go away already but it's taking a long time. It is less red than it was initially. Haven't really added much to the regime. I think I was adding too much product, so I skipped a day and now I am using small amounts and just placing action on the red area. I think my problem was my dipping into the Retin A, adding more Retin A over the pore-prone areas. Im just adding a pea now and hoping things calm down. I might go out and buy the hydrocortisone cream. |

Just to add more. Redness doesn't really bother me. My only concern is that I irritate it to the point where it remains permanently red? is this possible? |

I really don't know, amonavis! I would tend not to think that it would remain permanently red, but that is just my opinion and I am no expert!
It does sound like you were adding too much product, if you were applying RA and then reapplying it to certain areas. Keep us posted on the redness. |

Just to chime in with my Obagi redness experience....
If you think that the localized redness is troubling - you might want to avoid or minimize the application of the Nu Derm - just for a few days. (Exfoderm and Sun Fader seem to be esp. irritating for my skin) Give it just a couple days break - just on that one area - and see if things improve.
I, personally, haven't tried the Tolereen or Action - but I think Bethany has - and she said that they were worse than useless for her. So, I don't think you need to splurge on those if you haven't already.
For me, the trick has been to give the extra red/dry spots some respite from the Nu Derm - and then using a warm damp washcloth to wipe the affected areas clean after application. Seems to work...
Now, if only I could find a nice way to disguise all my "face dandruff"... Gah! |

Thanks. So far my skin does not really seem very even like I expected. It has been a month. Wrinkles are reduced, but eveness does not seem better at all. Maybe its because some areas are more red and irritated than others, which makes it look worse than it is? |

Has not been long enough to get that evenness amonavis. You need at the least 1 full skin cycle, which is 6 weeks, more than likely 12 usually. Keep in mind if you have broken caps, etc, that will also affect how even the skin looks. So yes, your redness is probably contributing to not looking even, as well as not long enough usage of the products. |

Thanks rileygirl, as always. I think im overreacting as im not used to seeing myself looking so scarry with strange red splotches and stuff. Kind of makes me look sick or something.
Are broken caps normal? What do you mean by that... Because I know sometimes Retin A can cause them.
I guess I thought after a month the redness and irritation would be mostly gone. A little unrealistic I guess. My skin is very all over the place. 2 weeks ago it was really flakey but not too red. Now its red but not as flakey. lol |

I feel your pain, amonavis! Anyone who has gone through Nu Derm knows what you are going through! It really will be worth it in the end.
No broken caps aren't normal. I just meant if you had them, they could also keep the skin from looking even.
The redness was really what bothered me the most. People would ask me if I was ok, had I checked by blood pressure lately, etc, etc. It will be off and on, just like the flaking. |

I think it might be irritation. You should avoid doing nothing on that area for a few days. It could be better soon. |

I have been using Obagi for 6 weeks now. My face is still red. My doctor had me do the Retin-A every-other day since 4.5 wks because it was so red and sensitive. My face completely flakes off every other day. Will this take longer for the reddness to go away? |

My personal opinion is that the redness is caused by the Exfoderm or Forte, which ever one is being used. The redness lasted the entire time for me, until I backed off the Exfoderm. I would just talk to your doctor and see what they recommend you do for the redness, though you will probably hear it will get better the longer you are on it! |
