Hi
Organic is a word used by a lot of companies that doesn’t always hold a lot of weight. The trend now is for “green” products so companies are touting that this and that is organic. Many products claiming to be organic also contain chemicals such as preservatives.
Just as there are some chemicals we’re told we should avoid there are organic ingredients we're also told we should avoid.
For example, according to Paula Begoun, Lavender has components in it that might be bad for the skin, the same goes for certain other natural ingredients.
I tend to think of organic coming from a plant of some sort. From what I have read, even though an ingredient may be organic, the way they extract it can be an issue as well.
Alcohol is organic but very drying to the skin so I avoid it. Mineral oil is organic, derived from petroleum, which is something I avoid because it breaks me out.
Paula Begoun has some articles on her website. If you go to her website search for “organic.” |
