I'm currently on finacea, which has toned down my redness somewhat, but not completely eliminated it. It's only been a month so that will hopefully improve, or at the least stop things from getting worse.
There are a couple of rosacea forums, and quite a few people report that red light therapy has helped lessen the redness. Some use the DPL, others an acne lamp, still others buy from the led man or make there own. There have been no reports yet from the lightstim, but maybe that's because it's still new. Based on what I've read around this forum lighstim seems like a good company, with a good product, which is why I'm leaning towards them.
Rosacea is a weird thing. Oils that are typically healing, such at emu and avocado make me flush. |

jud,
That's great to hear you are getting results from finacea! There's a good thread somewhere here on EDS, where quite a few people are pleased with the improvement in their acne. It's something I've been meaning to bring up at my next derm visit, since metrogel does nothing for me.
I'm also very pleased to read that other rosaceans are getting results with light therapy! Whoo hoo!
I know what you mean about the oils! I wouldn't call it a full-blown flush, but just about anything I apply to my cheeks makes them go red.
So last night I couldn't resist opening the little vials that arrived from Skin Actives...but I'm still waiting for my shea butter to arrive from Mountain Rose Herbs.
I have this little 5 ml vial of avocado and macadamia oils that I use daily, so I just added a dash of niacinamide, and a pinch of vit B5 and CoQ-10. I shook it up, and applied to my face.
I wasn't patient enough to wait a full hour as Kassy suggested, so after about 30 mins, I used a warm wet washcloth to wipe up anything that had not soaked in, and then used a cool compress. Then I did my normal light treatment - 5 mins on acne spots, 3 mins everywhere else. Too tired to do my neck, I went on to bed.
This morning, the typical redness in my cheeks appeared to be diminished. DH commented about it at breakfast, without any prompting from me.
In contrast, my chin and sides of nose continue to look pretty bad. Very red, flaky, and bumpy.
I can't wait for my shea butter to arrive! |

I received my shea butter, and tried cutting Kassy's recipe in half for my first try (in case I screwed it up, LOL).
Well, I am SOLD on her rosacea cream. It diminishes the flushing in my cheeks, and calms the red, irritated seb derm spots. I found it to be immediately calming and cooling. It also plumps up the crows' feet. And, I just realized I forgot to add the MSM! I know from past experience with MSM that it will just make this cream even better!
I'm afraid my skin may be too sensitive to benefit from this rosacea light, because I have to keep backing off due to dry, flaking, irritated skin.
I do not see any anti-aging benefit from this light so far, but I do realize that collagen-building takes time. Still, I don't see any short-term plumping. My crows' feet often look worse after a RLS session, so it appears to be having a dehydrating effect. I do try to drink lots of water before and after treatment, as Kassy advised in another thread...but I have to admit, I'm not always diligent. |

Glad the cream is working out nadjazz!
Don't forget you only need to do the light 3 minutes on the clear skin areas, neck and chest.. Just do what your skin tells you, and you will get results..
Collagen building takes a good 2 skin cycles in my experience, which is somewhere around 12 weeks.
Be dilligent about the water intake, it's very important! |

By the way, can you post or point the way to your rosacea recipe? I'm sure many people would love to learn more about it. Thanks! |
This is what I made for my Brother In Law for his Rosacea, and he gave it a thumbs up.. (Apply it AFTER your LED treatment though, not before. It's occlusive, and will not let the light penetrate.. It's strictly for soothing, healing and moisturizing.)
2 oz pure African or comparable shea butter (None of that whipped ready made crap, loaded with fillers!)
1 oz cold pressed avocado oil
1 oz base lotion (or coconut, saualane or palm oil if you prefer) A combination of these are good also.
2 Opti-MSM capsules, dissolved in about a TBS distilled water (then add to cream)
Co Q 10 (as directed for 4oz)
Niacinamide (as directed for 4oz)
Panthenol (vit B5) (as directed for 4oz)
Vitamin E (1/2 to 1 tsp...or you can omit, if you use another of the oils listed above.)
Melt the shea butter carefully and slowly a few seconds at a time in the microwave, add all other ingredients, mix well and store in a 4oz jar..
***Lots of us use MSM in powder form, and that is fine, as long as it doesn't have fillers and exipients. To check for purity just drop a 1/2 tsp into a half glass of water. If it sinks and dissolves immediately, it's pure and you are good to go!*** |

Wow, this recipes sound amazing, THANK YOU, Kassy! I'm so tempted to try it. However right now, I'm doing the Obagi Nuderm thing so I can't have moisturize skin. I have copied it down, along with your other incredible sounding recipes, and may try them all when I'm done with Nu-derm. Thanks, again. |

I can't believe LS recommended Rejuv Rx to rosaceans. The alcohol and fragrance in the produt will certainly set my skin on fire. (Yeah, I had really bad experience with those ingredients.)
Any good suggestions as for products used after LS Rosacea? I'm not really into DIY.
Thanks! |

Time to report back.
I started using LS Anti-aging and Rosacea on 6/28. So far I haven't seen much improvement with AA yet (if any at all?), but I have to say the Rosacea light rocks. I can't believe it! My skin would stay red for a while after I just finish using the light, but the next morning it's all gone! No flare-ups during the day either. I feel much more confident now.
BTW, I use the light along with GoW Rosacea Oil blend. |

ricayhermosa & nadjazz,
Just wondering if you could give an update on how the Rosacea LS is working out for you. Also, anyone else who is using this, I'd love to hear what results you are having. I'm using the AALS and am considering purchasing the RLS as well.
Thanks |

I took the plunge and bought both an AALS and the Rosacea light during the recent hautelook deal. So far I'm using the AALS around my eyes, and the rosacea one for the rest on my face. I'm not getting a full on flush, but my cheeks definitely seem a big redder immediately after use, though that fades quickly. Is that normal, or should I be worried that I'm potentially causing more inflammation? |

I've been using my Rosacea LightStim for three weeks now. I do it every night for five minutes per area. Started using the Purple Emu Rosacea treatment shortly after I began with the LightStim. While I didn't have any significant breakouts, my skin was really red and reactive all of the time. I've seen a significant reduction in the redness. Last week, when I was at the hair salon, my face didn't turn beet red from all of the chemicals--as it usually does. I've also had friends comment that my face is less red then usual. So far, I'm really pleased. |

Hi, all -
I'm sorry I haven't responded to the questions on this thread. For some reason, I'm not getting email notification on new posts for this thread.
When I continued to experience alot of flaking and irritation back in 2009, I realized something was wrong. I consulted four different dermatologists who were mystified that I had stopped all topicals for a month, was cleansing with only water, and still had red, flaking skin. I finally found a derm that I could really "work" with. My dermatitis is finally under control, but I would not say it is "cured", so I've not been using my light.
I'm so happy see read about kathymack's results! I think it's time to plug in the RLS and give it another try. |

I stopped using my topicals almost a year ago. Used Noritate and Finacea. Can't say that I got good or bad results. My skin didn't get worse when I stopped it.
You may want to look into the Purple Emu Redness and Blemish Control:
"This highly effective, all natural topical crème was created just for rosacea sufferers with dry and sensitive skin. Redness and Blemish Control contains the same ingredients as Blemish Control, however, we've increased the amount of healing oils in order to create a gentler formula. Perfect to control redness and mild acne." |
