Micka, I used a RA gel for about 11 wks and when I got my order of the cream it was sooooo much better! The gel is so much more irritating and it doesn't really mix well with the blender.

I got my prescirption for RA 0.05% cream. I hope it works out for me ... I mean the whole Obagi Nuderm thing. Wish me luck! I will keep u posted about my progress ...

Good luck Micka! Did you end up purchasing just a few of the Nuderm products or the whole kit? Keep us posted!

I bought just 3 Nuderm products, and not the whole line. I just don't know how many grams of Tretinion 0.05% is enough for the cycle. Can anybody advise please.

I know that 1 inch of blender has to be mixed with 2 inches of Retin .

Micka, you need at least 1/2 gm per night of the Tretinoin so one cycle of 6 wks you would need at least 20 gms.

Well, I am going through a rough week Sad
My red, irritated, flaky parts around my mouth are even more red, irritated, flaky and dry. I decided to take a brake from the Retin-a and Blender plus Exfoderm for a couple of days because it is baaaaad. Overall I keep on liking how my skin looks, just my mouth area is so bad. I think I am going to try the lower Retin-A concentration.

I'll be patient Very Happy

Margarett, I've taken short breaks from Nuderm myself. I know it is not advised to use moisturizer while on Nuderm but on those days that I took a break, I used it. I've also read that you can have your cotton ball with the toner that you used ready to dab on to parts close to the lips and eyes to dilute any products in that area. Riley has also suggested to use a diaper rash cream in raw areas (zinc oxide) for healing.

Yep, diaper rash cream, or plain old Aquaphor around the mouth before applying the products for a while.

Hi Margarette,
Aquaphor was a staple during my Nuderm regime and I continue to keep a tube of it around at all times!!

Thank you kims,I got the diaper rash and Aquaphor because my chin was on fire, now it is a bit better. I think I will definitely leave that area alone. I noticed some deep wrinkles in the morning around the mouth that were not there before or were not so obvious to me before. Please tell me that is normal. Overall, when I look myself in the mirror from a distance my skin looks amazing. My skin tone is so much better and I can see the difference and the proof is this: Before, I did not apply any of the Obagi on my upper lids, I thought that was not supposed to. Well, it has gotten to the point lately that I need to apply a much lighter concealer on my upper lids to match my overall skin tone, if I don;t do that, I look like a Panda bear. My lower lids are fine because I have applied the Clear and Blendre/Retin-a, Sunfader there... but those little wrinkles around my mouth are not very nice and scare me a lot. I don't know what to do at this point because my hyper-pigmentation has lighten to a good 80%, which is good enough to me. I would like to go on "maintenance" now. What do you think, girls? or I was thinking on using only the Clear, Sunfader in the morning and maybe twice a week the Blender/Retina-a combo. I am bit scared to get wrinklier, but I love how my cheeks and forehead look. I don't think I've ever been this fair/clean before.

How many weeks have you done, Margarett?

The wrinkles around your mouth may be due to dryness. What you could try is putting the Aquaphor on top of the products before bed at night. See if that helps the wrinkled look.

Rileygirl, it's been a bit more than a month. Today my face is much better, a relief from the redness and flakiness but I did not apply any of the products, just Aquaphor all over and my sunscreen.
As I was looking at the mirror, I remember how bad it was before Obagi with the dark patches and dark circles under my eyes and no, I don't want to go back to that stage ever again, on the other hand I don't want to look wrinkly. Such a dilemma!

I am in Vancouver again, I came for a revision of a blepharoplasty (lower lids) gone wrong and my eyes became droopy, but the specialist (oculoplastic) in Vancouver wanted to do one eye at a time. So here I am with one eye done and not the other...lol. However, the eye done looks fantastic even with the swelling and a bit purple, he lifted the far right corner (right eye) with muscle and I heard he told his assistant about going close to the bone or something (scary), but he also shortened my eyelashes Sad and I was growing them and taking care of them with a special product.hahaha.. there goes the 100 dollars I paid for that thing. Anyway, my eye looks awesome and I saw it right after he finished (before swelling and bruising) and saw how much he lifted it and it has like an exotic look, at the same time it kind of ironed the wrinkles under the eye and the groove I had or hollow, amazing!!! Now, I have to wait a couple of weeks for him to do the other one. I will look strange for a couple of weeks, hiding at home or with glasses everywhere.
Anyway, I am excited and wanted to share.

Well, congratulations on your eye surgery, Margarett. It sounds like it went great and that you are going to look beautiful once the healing is done!

If you are only 1 month in to Nu Derm, I really would suggest you stay on it longer. The first cycle of "out with the old" can be anywhere from 6-8 weeks typically, then you move to the 2nd phage of "in with the new" where the products are really doing their job. I think if you are happy with your skin at 3 months you could go to maintenance. Though I know some of the younger girls only need 6 weeks, I think those of us who are a little older need the 3 months time.

Hi rileygirl,

I'm short of 5 weeks. Today I put on the Gentle Cleanser/Toner, Clear and SS. Yesterday night :Clear/Blender/R-A. I'm going slow this time and my skin is much better today. One thing I was reading again with the instructions was that when washing with the Gentle Cleanser we are supposed to dry our faces just by patting it dry with towel and I was rubbing the towel all over my face... I hope that was the reason it was so irritated.

It certainly would contribute. However, there will be times when the skin does get very irritated. These are strong products that really work. Good idea to back off and go slower while you are irritated!

Hi Margarett,
I just wanted to say that I'm thrilled about your eye surgery. I'm sure you can't wait to get the other eye done! Sounds like your skin is coming along nicely too!

Thank you kims, my eye is healing nicely, no bruising as I was expeccting, and the swelling has gone down much more. Good thing the doctor is doing one eye at a time because I can sleep on the other side and let the operated eye heal by not sleeping on that side.

I went back to my usual Obagi treatment, Exfoderm, Sunfader, etc. today and read more about Dr. Obagi anti-moisturizing theory, which calms me down and also reading you girls and thank you for your support Obagi sisters Very Happy !

You can use the products around your eyes. The Clear and Retin A/Blender can be used sparingly on your lids, as well (no Exfoderm on the lids).

Micka, why not phone them and find out when did they send them; they usually send them right away but it depends where you live and how fast you are going to get them.

About using them around your eyes: At the beginning I did not use them anything around my eyes, just the Gentle Wash because I was afraid of getting wrinkles, but then I introduced the products slowly to my lower lids, to my under eye circles : Clear, Blender and Retin-A. I saw that my under eye circles were brighter and not as dark as before but my upper lids were very dark and did not match my face tone and now I am using same products in both upper and lower lids.

I have not gotten any wrinkles around my eyes, just around my mouth there are a couple that were not there before, I imagine is the dryness and peeling I am going through on that area.

Dear ladies,

So glad I found a forum that will help me, I started the Obagi system last year after dermatological control, however my reaction was so severe that my skin all over my face - and especially around the mouth area - was cracking open and bleeding. Even thought the dermatologist told me to stop NuDerm n5 and n6 for a while I still got quite shocked about the reaction. but after reading the forum I decided to give it a go again. I started again 7 days ago, including tretinoin every otherday, and I have to say my skin is now quite red, no peeling yet, and now I am just wondering: has the skin really acclimatised or it is just the products - open for 1 whole year - that are now less effective? should I just buy a new set of obagi? it is quite expensive though and if I could avoid it actually it would be much better. I was terrified about last years' reaction so I am not even sure i want to buy a new set of aggressive products... help pls!!! thanks Barbie

Mmmm.. that's a tough one and welcome Barbarella!
It happened to me with some products that I did not know if they were good or not after some time in my shelves and I phoned the manufacturer to ask, maybe you could do the same and the pharmacist where you purchased the Retin-A. I also happened to have an old Retin-A and phoned the pharmacist where I purchased it.

Anyway, good luck barbarella, it is not an easy ride, but it is worth it and some days it has its ups and downs as I have had them but we are here to support you.
