Is there a healthy makeup line out there anywhere? I thought Bare Minerals was ok, but someone I know told me the bismuth stuff in it is bad and causes acne, and mica is not good for the skin or lungs either....I'm in the process of trying to get completely rid of my acne without resorting to drugs if possible...and I figure I should cover all bases so I know for sure and certain I have to resort to medicines before I do so. What options do I have, before I start messing with skincare products, I want to be sure I'm not aggravating my skin with makeup. Going without is not an option for me unfortunately. Thank you for any information!

Raesin Images offers MMU with no bismuth or mica.

Editing to add: Here is an interesting article I found on their blog regarding bismuth and mica:

awe that article is SO aggravating..."makeup so pure you can sleep in it" MY A$$. That kind of thing makes me really distrust that whole makeup company...cos if I know about Bismuth....they certainly do...yet they continue with their ads..and as if that's not irresponsible enough, they tell you it's ok to sleep in. grrr. No wonder I have acne. I'm gonna have to start scrutinizing every thing I put on my skin including detergents I wash laundry in, not to mention my diet, which is fairly clean but contains wheat and dairy. This seems hopeless.

You should check out the 302 Skincare thread under the Product Reviews forum...that line does wonders for people with acne (and people without it!).

You are correct bismuth is bad for the skin. If you are looking for mineral makeup there are lines out there exclude this ingredient for this very reason. If you do a search on google for "bismuth free" mineral makeup you will find many companies and take your pick. I hope this helps.

My favorite mineral makeup - NCN Liquid minerals - no bismuth, talc or other fillers... I actually feel like this is skincare rather than makeup, with the additional advantage of evening out my skin tone. Very sheer coverage, which is all I really need. I apply this all over, then stipple powdered mineral makeup on nose and cheeks. Everyday Minerals is good, comes in many many shades... Even Physician's Formula Organic Mineral Makeup from CVS pharmacy is very good as well.

I was lucky in the mineral makeup search. I didn't have to sample a ton of brands to find something suitable for me, although this is probably more to do with my oily/combo skin than anything else. It's difficult to find a shade that matches perfectly, but when I go for sheer coverage a perfect match isn't necessary.

Good luck to you, a great foundation that won't break you out and gives you the coverage you need is hard to find. Once you do find it, then you're free to concentrate on other things... like clothes, purses, shoes, and.....skincare Smile

The disadvantage to mineral makeup --- in very hot weather, it has no staying power. NONE.... whatsoever.... last summer I had to switch to conventional makeup. So glad it's cooler now, and I've been able to return to my MMU>...

I have never heard of this brand. I'll certainly have to google them. How long have you been using them?

I think I tried every reasonably "good" makeup under the sun.

I tried NCNs, Raesin, Aromaleigh, .....

Out of all I prefer either Lumiere or Bellapierre.

Neither irritates my very sensitive skin, neither breaks me out, and they both have decent staying power.

They claim to be, but as Bethany stated their products contain bismuth, wich can clog the pores. I was surprised to find this out, because I thought their products were natural too. This ingrediant can irritate some people.
